    3. May I add my gentle thoughts to those already expressed on these list for Lesley and Colin. A search of Rootsweb shows over 11,000 posts from Lesley's email address to various lists stretching back 14 years. There are probably even more on old message boards that I have long forgotten about. The "Claim a Convict" website, begun in August 1998, was updated regularly. It not only helped put convict researchers into contact with others researching a particular convict but had helpful pages: FAQs, explanations of "Indents" and other convict research terms, codes and abbreviations, lists of convict ships and early Governors of NSW, and links. As David Hooper said in the "Townsville Bulletin" of 23 April 2002 (p. 808): "Lesley Uebel's concept is as logical in presentation as it is broad in its scope. A remarkable achievement on-line index sharing, this site helps connect, via a live e-mail link, anyone who is researching a specific convict who entered New South Wales, Australia, via the reception centre at Port Jackson, between (so far) 1788 and 1813." A "remarkable achievement" indeed, and that was still early days. Then there are the publications including the CDs with the bountiful fruits of her research. Her internet work is pioneering. "Claim-a-convict" predated the State Library of Queensland's convict database by almost a decade: http://www.slq.qld.gov.au/resources/family-history/info-guides/convicts/about According to the "The Chronicle" (Toowoomba) of 11 July 2012 ("Having a convict in your family can provide you with a wealth of information..."), Lesley's site at about 124,000 records had a thousand more than the SLQ's site which was created by a taskforce of volunteers with the resources of a State Library behind it. I hope the seas are calm for your last journey. Ian Jordan Sydney
