    3. Hi Mike and other PJers who have joined the topic. This sure is something to think about. I came close to losing about 20 years research and all that goes with it when fires hit the ACT in the early 2000s. My way of overcoming that side of it at least was to self publish a series of books on both my own families and my wife's family and have digitised copies of all books on CD. I also have backed up the digitised family histories, notes, photos etc on a second computer, as well as on a couple of removable hard drives that are easy to rescue. Ideally, one copy should be stored at a separate location. However, this does not take care of the many files and reams of hard copy, original photos etc. Hopefully someone will want to acquire them when I eventually fall off my twig, as you succinctly described Mike.
