Good afternoon Sandra, I too have Tipperary ancestors, and I can't get any info on them. During the political uprisings in Ireland in the past 80 or so years, a lot of the old Tipperary records which had survived until then, were destroyed, and a lot of us have ground to a research halt. My Irish convict ancestor, Denis Hogan b. ca 1811 was from somewhere in Tipperary, and that is as far as I have been able to go back, despite the help of two other people related to Denis, one of whom lived in Tipperary. I don't even know who Denis' parents were, but they could have been Michael Hogan and Ellen Dunne, but those names don't crop up in later naming of children. Once Denis arrived here in the early 1830s I know not much more on him, considering the few early records that have survived since that time. If my late father knew anything about Denis, he certainly didn't let on, as it was a stigma to have convict ancestry back then. Once I worked on the next generation here in NSW, a lot more information had survived and was released for them. Sorry to not give you better information on early research. Liz.
