    3. Hi everyone, The end of another very interesting year on the Port Jackson Convicts Mailing List. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members who contributed in any way. By contributing, I mean those who asked questions, answered questions, made others aware of interesting books or web sites, or just sent a reminder to everyone about the convicts in their family. Without you the PJ Convicts List would not exist or be quite as successful as it has been over the years. It IS one of the better lists available although restricted to a small period of time in Australia's history. Over the past year we have been able to help solve many a problem for others and although we may not hear back from a few, I am certain that they have been pleased with the information received. I hope that this list continues on as it has for the past 8 years - full of information about times past, helping people solve problems about their convicts and a bit of fun along the way. I hope that next year is just as exciting and interesting, Please don't hesitate to send a message every so often with the names and transports of those convicts from whom you descend. I would like to wish you and your families, found and unfound, all the very best for the new year, 2009. A reminder that the NSW BDMs should add an extra year so that should keep most of us busy for a little while! >From Robbie Burns most famous folk song Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And auld lang syne? HAPPY NEW YEAR Best regards Lesley Uebel mailto:ckennedy@bigpond.net.au CLAIM A CONVICT http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/index.html

    3. Hi Lesley, With your expert help and that of other members of this list, I have been very fortunate to have been able to track down the origins of my family and for that I most sincerely thank you one and all. There is still much to learn but that enhances the thrill of the chase and for that thrill I also thank you. Your well wishes for the coming New Year are very welcome and are reciprocated. I look forward to another great year of " hunting " and receiving more of the informative historical facts about our great land that you, Lesley, may see fit to impart to us. This may spoil the above a little bit but is there any way you can conjure up a decent cricket team in time for Sydney.........please ! Happy New Year to all. 3. I will try sending this again - this is the second email tonight that Rootsweb have rejected my messages :( Thank you for your comments Arnie As for the current cricket situation I cannot help..... to me it is like watching paint dry. As they say... may the best man (or team) win! An interesting cricket item from 204 years ago The Sydney Gazette 8 January 1804 The late intense weather has been very favourable to the amateurs of cricket, who have scarcely lost a day for the last month. The frequent immoderate heats might have been considered inimical to the amusement, but were productive of very opposite consequences, as the state of the atmosphere might always regulate the portion of exercise necessary to the ends this laborious diversion was originally intended to answer.
