G'Day all, Happy hunting for the new year to all. I just thought I would post a link to the Dept of lands website http://parishmaps.lands.nsw.gov.au/pmap.html which has historical maps online and included on the map is the property owner. Have tracked down some ancestors old haunts but it can be time consuming as you have to manually browse around each map (no name search available) but if you know the parish name you can just browse the maps. Also a parish name search tool http://www.gnb.nsw.gov.au/name_search/extract?id=ujYbWyrXSX where you can type in the name of a town, river etc and obtain the details for parish etc... Sorry if I am posting a link you all know about but I have been having a great time checking out the old maps. I also worked out where "3 chain road" (aka song title) originates. Most roads of the time were 5 chains wide but smaller ones were designated as a 3-chain road. Amazing what you can learn by accident :) Cheers all, Rick
Hi all, You can actually buy all the disks from the land dept. You get a set of six and takes only about a week for delivery. I got all six but you can them singly if you wish.It is very interesting to see how suburbs and areas have changed over the years. Does anyone know if you can get details from the lands dept that follows the title changes through to say about 50 years ago? Especially on original land grants from the early 1800's Have a safe and happy New Year all. At 02:14 PM 31/12/2008, you wrote: There is a fairly new web site for NSW property information - www.six.maps.nsw.gov.au SIX is an acronym for Spacial Information Exchange It's complex but worth browsing around, and struggling with its systems. There are sections where you can overlay transparencies of aerial photos over the original parish maps, or choose current deposited plan references .... and more - street directories, LGA boundaries - find the current DP or Torrens Tile reference for an address, then zoom in on a transparent overlay of a 1949 aerial photo. The section called Search takes you to where you can look up the Land & Property computer database, or place an online order for various types of documents. The Deed search by name finds Powers of Attorney and other types of registered agreements. It's become difficult this last year to do some types of property searches at the Macquarie St Lands office because they have been taking large batches of folios off the shelves for digitising. This web site is one of the results. Old System titles have not been digitised but you can order a copy via the Search section. Most of their paid copies are around $10, the same cost they charge for photcopies at Macquarie St..
