Hi Listers, Convict John Grainger, Mangles (2) left 2 brothers in Ireland. One of those brothers, Thomas, died in Valparaiso, Chile, on 12.5.1861. Recently, it has been suggested he was on route BACK to Ireland from Australia. No one knows why he was here. Perhaps to find his brother? John Grainger died in 1860 in Prospect NSW. I have some information that Thomas "was late of Beechwood, New South Wales" (near Port Macquarie). Not sure what this means as this phrase I quote from a historian in Ireland. I am hoping to try and re-trace some of his footsteps, but not sure where to start. His brother was a convict and he would've known this. Not sure where the Beechwood connection is. Is it known that some relations of convicts sent here, came to find them? Thank you for any help. Marina.
