    3. Hi everyone, Let's assume that a time travel capsule has been invented. Which convict ancestor would you visit first and why? regards Lesley Uebel mailto:ckennedy@bigpond.net.au CLAIM A CONVICT http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/index.html

    3. Good scenario Lesley, A concept I've often thought about - I imagine materialising at The Rocks in late 1808 and heading up to the pub 'The Cornwallis Frigate' to have a chat with Joseph Morley of the Second Fleet. Over a few ales I would extract all the answers to the questions that in this present age I know can't be answered. After him I would work my way down the list of 9 or so related convicts and their kin and collect their stories in detail. Sigh - in my dreams. 3. Hi Lesley That's easy; the first would be Thomas Timms, he arrived on 11 August 1827 on Manlius. Thomas was born in Stafford England about 1804, committed his crime in Tamworth Warwick 6 March 1826 and was captured in Leicester where he was convicted on 20 March 1826. I would pick Tom so I could ask him about his first wife and child [boy or girl?] What were their names? Where were they married? Where was the baby christened? Where were they living, was it Stafford or Warwick? Would his wife know what had happen to him? If there was time I would ask where he was christened? Who his Dad Charles married and where? If only there were time machines..... 3. Great idea Lesley, I would want to find William Brittain/en/on and ask him was he really the father of Ann Leader's child in 1817 and, if so, how did he get back to Port Jackson in time for this to happen after stealing the ship Unity from the Derwent in 1813. And how come he wasn't hung. I would also ask if it was really his co travellor Frederick Callaghan (Guildford and co pirate of the Unity) listed in the 1825 PJ muster. I would also ask if he enjoyed his life in New Norfolk and was his son James the owner of the Rose that sailed regularly from Port Cygnet to Hobart. And then, given his record, I probably wouldn't believe a word he said!! Regards, Natalie

    3. Hi Everyone, What a great idea !! - if only ... Firstly I'd like to ask my 4th G-Grandmother how she and the other 49 female convicts aboard The Emu (1812) - bound for Hobart Town - survived for almost a year when they were captured by Pirates on the "Holkar" and marooned on St Vincent in the Cape Verde Islands for just on 12 months. They were eventually rescued from St Vincent, taken back to Portsmouth Harbour by the "Isabella" , but were not allowed to land because they had been sentenced to "transportation over the seas". Eventually they joined other convicts on board the "Broxbornebury" and sailed again for New South Wales on 22 February 1814, over a year after their original date of departure. This time bound for Sydney Town. Fortunately for me she managed to survive, arrive in Port Jackson instead of Hobart & marry a member of the crew & have 8 children. She's my favourite convict as she endured so much - just to get here . She was 18 at the time of her trial. As well, like Peter Stewart I would wish to ask Mary Groves (Prince of Wales 1788) - my 5th G-Grandmother, what happened to her after her daughter Elizabeth was Christened in 1796. Her husband William Douglas (Alexander 1788) who she married on 1st June 1788 managed to keep visible & has a headstone at St Albans Old River Cemetery. Poor Mary...who knows where she is. 3. Hello List I would love to ask my GGG grandmother Mary Hutchinson per "Mary Ann" 1791, about the deaths of her mother Ann, who had also arrived on the "Mary Ann" 1791 (both found guilty of plying a woman with gin and robbing her) and the man James Weavers whom she was living with. James Weavers and Richard Porter, to whom Ann was married, both men had land grants at Kissing Point. They had arrived on the same ship "Surprise"in 1790. Ann died on 3rd April 1805 at Kissing Point, James Weavers died one day later on 4th April 1805 also at Kissing Point. Mary & Richard Porter were later married on 8th June 1811. Gladys at Coogee
