G'day I would visit George Smith (Minstrel, 1825). Dusty, as we call him, stands out for me because he is the only one among all of my convict ancestors from which an oral family history has survived to the present day. This is something my family treasures dearly. Thanks go to my loquacious maternal line. If Dusty is half the irreverent larrikin and loving man that descendants have come to understand then it would be an enjoyable and moving encounter. I should like to sit down and have a beer with him on his verandah and read him the news (he couldn't R/W but he liked his newspapers, and they liked him). But before we become too groggy there would be many tantalising mysteries I would like him to clarify. Luckily we have the next best thing to time travel; bringing the past to the present: the PJ list. Cheers Brent
