    1. Re: [PJ] Time travel - Mary Wade
    2. Hi Lyn, I gather you are referring to the Mary Wade who was the partner of Jonathan Brooker. My Diggins family is connected to the Brooker's by marriage to Jonathan Brooker's grandson Murdo. I am interested in finding out about the origins of Jonathan, as I have another "possible" connection to a Brooker family through my Diggins line. I have seen it posted on the internet that Jonathan Brooker (Atlantic 1791) was born in Kent, notwithstanding having been tried in Surrey. I have also found a photo of his headstone which indicates he was 76 when he died. I was wondering where the information came from that he was born in Kent, and I would like to find some verification of his birth year. Kind regards, Warren Diggins ________________________________________________________________________ AOL Email goes Mobile! You can now read your AOL Emails whilst on the move. 3. Hi Warren, Yes, that's the Mary. I don't know any more about Jonathan Brooker than what's printed in "Mary Wade to Us": /Originally came from Kent, though crimes were committed in London. (often spelt Broker in original records) The name, Brooker, is listed as a peculiary local name in an area of Kent until the great social upheavals of the 18th century. The Process Book of the Surrey Quarter Sessions say that on 20/2/1788 he was accused of an assault on Isaac Solomon. He pleaded not guilty, and after trial was acquitted with no prosecution. At this stage he was living at St George, Southwark, and was called a labourer. On 5/10/1790 he was charged with the theft of 200 pounds of glue, valued at eight pounds. He was tried, found guilty of felony, transported for 7 years. At this time he was described as a chair maker of the Parish of St Mary Magdalene, Bermondsey. Documentary evidence of his date of birth not found, but calculations made from the dates shown in official documents indicate he was over 30 when arrived in NSW. /Regards, Lyn / / wdiggins@aol.com wrote: > Hi Lyn, > > I gather you are referring to the Mary Wade who was the partner of > Jonathan Brooker. > > My Diggins family is connected to the Brooker's by marriage to Jonathan > Brooker's grandson Murdo.
