    3. The Convict Death Index (1828-1879) is part of my CD "The Port Jackson Convicts Anthology" Richard is not listed. I think you will find that Richard was sent to VDL as were about half of those who were transported on that vessel. regards Lesley Uebel mailto:ckennedy@bigpond.net.au CLAIM A CONVICT http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/index.html -----Original Message----- From: aus-pt-jackson-convicts-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-pt-jackson-convicts-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Peter Strauss Sent: Sunday, March 15, 2009 2:44 PM To: List PJ- Convicts; LIST- AUS- CONVICTS Subject: [PJ] RICHARD CHAPMAN-COROMANDEL 1820-POSSIBLE DEATH IN CUSTODY Hi Listers, Is there any index available of convicts who died in custody please? Richard CHAPMAN was sentenced by the Middlesex Jury in April 1819 to life. He was on the same ship, Coromandel, as my GG grandfather George DUDLEY who later assumed that name "CHAPMAN" as an alias although he reverted to DUDLEY and later called himself George Chapman DUDLEY although this last did not appear in records until his marriage in 1858. DUDLEY may have assumed this name if he knew that Chapman had died. If there is an index where would it be available please? Cheers Peter Melbourne
