Hello Lesley and listers, I am seeking to hear from anyone able to add to the particulars I have concerning the antecedents of a convict named Michael Fogarty who came to Sydney from Ireland in 1822 by the ship "Mangles". I am not descended from him. I have researched a lot of Australian Fogarty families. I have long wondered whether Michael`s family can be linked with any other in my collection. Australian records state that Michael Fogarty was from County Kilkenny and that his parents were John and Catherine. I know about Michael`s wife and have a lot of material on descendants. Australian records give me the impression that Michael probably had a sister named Mary who married a Ricbard Hennessy who also was transported to Sydney on the "Mangles" in 1822. Richard Hennessy appears to have been from Clonmel in County Tipperary. I have investigated the descent from Richard`s daughter Mary, who came to Sydney in 1830 as a convict on the ship "Asia" with a convict named Catherine Fogarty. The indents referred to those two as sisters. I have investigated the descent from Catherine. Michael Fogarty settled at Maitland. Eventually there were descendants in Queensland and the Northern Territory. Regards, Andrew Fogarty Casino N.S.W.
