Hi Grahame, What period would that be: "early immigration ships"? I am looking for a RICHARD REYNOLDS who was in England for the 1851 census, but married in Sydney on 1 Jan 1855. Cannot find any record of how he got here. I know there was a convict (exile) of the same name arrived on Randolph 1849, but I have eliminated him as a possibility. Best regards, John
Hi John You are right in the period, but dont stop looking, check newspaper shipping intelligence. Then again he may have been listed as Mr Reynolds. Also could have arrived in Melbourne or elsewhere and sailed on a coastal ship to Sydney. Here is an example in 1855 http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/1855/11/053cho.htm Grahame On 30/01/2009, at 5:43 PM, John Bushell wrote: > Hi Grahame, > > What period would that be: "early immigration ships"? > > I am looking for a RICHARD REYNOLDS who was in England for the 1851 > census, > but married in Sydney on 1 Jan 1855. Thanks Grahame, That link was interesting for the variety of nationalities amongst the crew. However, a few of the names make me suspicious of the veracity. For example: Fisher, William France Bell, George Italy Wheeler, James France Rather uncontinental looking names. I will do a bit of poking around there, but it is a pity they just give steerage as numbers with no names. Best regards, John
Hello John, Re your email to the List dated 30/1/2009. I found a reference to a Richard Reynolds in my book "Land Grants 1788-1809 - a record of registered grants and leases in NSW; VDL and NI" published by the Australian Documents Library in circa 1981. 1804 - Book 3C (Grants by Governor King) No 1245 Richard Reynolds - August 11. Granted 50 acres in the district of Mulgrave Place. Rent 1 shilling and six pence per year commencing after 5 years. I have no idea whether this man was a convict or not; nor when he came here. Hope this info. helps.
