    3. Hi Karen He actually arrived as Patrick Lawless...... and on checking the Indent is states in small writing 'or John'. He was tried in Dublin in 1831 and not Meath although Meath is noted as his native place. If you check the NSW State Records web site you will note that he did not receive his Certificate of Freedom until 1841 - a few years after due. He didn't receive a Ticket of Leave whilst serving his original sentence although he did receive one in 1859!! and that being the case may have committed a crime after 1841 when he was free. Now, on checking the State Records of NSW further - in particular the Index to Deposition Registers Index it appears as though he, his wife and son may have committed a few colonial crimes such as assault, larceny and arson whilst living in or near Queanbeyan in the 1870's..... unless there was another family with the same names. John Francis Lawless per "Bussorah Merchant" married Sophia Thompson in 1848. Sophia's father is "William Thompson" also a convict, he married Sophia Chipp. Unfortunately this is all the info I have on him. Sophia Chipp's father was "Thomas Chipp" a First Fleet Marine and her grandmother was "Jane Langley" per Lady Penrhyn in the First Fleet. Any information about any of the above-mentioned would be greatly appreciated. Kind Regards & Happy New Year to All Karen

    3. Hi Karen There are 18 people listed under Lawless in the 4 volumes book Queanbeyan Pioneer Cemeteries, none appear to be the two below but in view of Lesley's reference to Queanbeyan below, there could be a connection. Do you know the names of any Lawless children? Perhaps contact me off list as its getting away from PJ Convict matters. cheers Grahame On 03/01/2009, at 10:54 AM, Lesley Uebel wrote: > Hi Karen > > He actually arrived as Patrick Lawless...... and on checking the > Indent is > states in small writing 'or John'. > > He was tried in Dublin in 1831 and not Meath although Meath is > noted as his > native place. > > > If you check the NSW State Records web site you will note that he > did not > receive his Certificate of Freedom until 1841 - a few years after due. > > He didn't receive a Ticket of Leave whilst serving his original > sentence > although he did receive one in 1859!! and that being the case may > have committed > a crime after 1841 when he was free. > > > Now, on checking the State Records of NSW further - in particular > the Index to > Deposition Registers Index it appears as though he, his wife and > son may have > committed a few colonial crimes such as assault, larceny and arson > whilst > living in or near Queanbeyan in the 1870's..... unless there was > another family > with the same names. > > > Regards > > Lesley Uebel > mailto:ckennedy@bigpond.net.au > CLAIM A CONVICT > http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/index.html > > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: aus-pt-jackson-convicts-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:aus-pt-jackson-convicts-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of > Karen > Sent: Saturday, January 03, 2009 5:23 AM > To: aus-pt-jackson-convicts@rootsweb.com > Subject: [PJ] CORRECTION: Should be "John FRANCIS Lawless" not John > Patrick > > > Hi again Listers > > > Yesterday I asked for info about John Patrick Lawless..when it > should be > "JOHN FRANCIS LAWLESS", my apologies I was getting him confused > with another > relation. > > > John Francis Lawless per "Bussorah Merchant" married Sophia > Thompson in > 1848. > > > Sophia's father is "William Thompson" also a convict, he married > Sophia > Chipp. Unfortunately this is all the info I have on him. > > > Sophia Chipp's father was "Thomas Chipp" a First Fleet Marine and her > grandmother was "Jane Langley" per Lady Penrhyn in the First Fleet. > > > Any information about any of the above-mentioned would be greatly > appreciated. > > > Kind Regards & Happy New Year to All > > Karen > > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to AUS-PT- > JACKSON-CONVICTS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' > without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
