    3. Hi Listers I am starting to do a time line from the arrival of my convict John Hawkes on the Earl Grey 2 in 1838. The gaps I am trying to fill in are 1843 Ticket of Leave for the Yass Area Assigned to George Porter ? 1844 Freedom 44/1639 1845 - I found an unclaimed letter at Sydney PO - possibly from his young wife back in Walsall Stafford 1851 - A John Hawkes charged employer John Christian with lack of wages - seems Mr Christian was contantly receiving the same charges from other convicts - reference Maitland Mercury. 1852 Married Mary Ann Davis (some 19 years younger than him) at Seymour. 1852-1855 Children Sarah, Mary born at Seymour 1858 Son john born ? 1859-61 William and Thomas born at Gundaroo NSW (now ACT) 1860 William aged 18 months buried at Gundaroo I am trying to find out what happened in the missing years 1844 -1852 and from 1861 onwards. I have never been able to find deaths for either John Hawkes or his wife Mary Ann Davis (born Cork Ireland 1831). Anyone who could help - I would be most appreciative. Any information on where to look would also be of assistance. Thanks Pat Mott Researching HAWK, HAWKE, HAWKES, DAVIS, MOTT, GREEN, ANDERSON, RIGG, CAMPBELL, MAC TAGGART, TAGGART, RAIN, CONROY, ROBINSON, HOLGATE, DINES, MARSH

    3. Hello Pat, I can't help you with any of the names you mention, except, possibly the Marsh name. I haven't got all the details to hand at the moment, but I remember Christiana Wilcox (a convict) married into a Marsh Family - all my records are put away, but I'm sure she married George Marsh, and some of the Marsh children eventually ended up in Blayney, into which branch my paternal gt.aunt Emily Newstead married, and my father and his sisters grew up with all the Marsh cousins. I know I grew up hearing family stories about how someone got held up by Bell Hall. If this family is of interest please let me know, and I can probably help a bit more. Liz Lake Macquarie. 3. Hello Pat, Our ancestor was assigned to Captain George Potter in the Yass district in that era and he was also at Gundaroo, have you had contact with the Davis family who were also in that district, the Davis family have a wonderfull family tree and they were there also. There were several " STATIONS "in the district such as " CAVAN" " MILL BANK" " GIDLEIGH " " BANGO" JEIR" " Taemas" Yass Historical Society may help you. MAJOR George Johnston had the leases on several Station in that district and convicts were moved from one to another quite often.
