Hello Susan, Unfortunately not. The only "Alexander" amongst the various versions of "Mc's" was an Alexander McDonald. In fact, Alexander McDonald was the only Alexander in all of the "M's". Don't forget that my book only goes until 1809 and that there are some missing grants. If you are in Sydney, you might be able to find out more info. (for after 1809) from the Land Titles Office (St James station end of Macquarie Street). You need to go to the basement of the "newer" building (behind the old Barracks). It's a bit of a rabbit warren down there, but you can ask at the basement reception desk (near the lift) where to go. There are no lockers there, so take the minimal of personal belongings with you. Photocopying is a bit expensive - you need to buy photocopying tickets but the good thing is that it is one photocopy ticket per item photocopied ie - a 6 page item = 1 photocopy ticket; a 1-page item = 1 photocopy ticket. I've found the staff extremely helpful there. You are allowed to use the staff canteen (on the top floor) for lunch/tea breaks - prices quite good. Oh and the nearest toilets to the basement section are back near the lift. Good luck. Hi Joan, I would appreciate if you could let me know if there was a reference to my PJ convict Alexander McCabe in your book, please? Kind regards, Susan. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to AUS-PT-JACKSON-CONVICTS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Hi Joan, Alexander McCabe and Elizabeth Celey were the earliest convicts in my family I could think of that might be in your book timeframe. However there are heaps of convicts and free settlers including Davis, Golding, Hanslow, Oakley, Camden, Fisher, Walsh etc that would be recorded at the Land Titles Office I suppose. Would be worth a trip one day- but I still haven't even managed to get to the NSW Archives yet. Thanks for your advice and for checking the book, Kind regards, Susan, in NSW.
