    3. John Chilvers, born Dickleburgh Norfolk in 1798, was my GGGrandfather. He was convicted in Jan 1838 of stealing 2 bushells of wheat and sentenced to 7 years transportation. He left Portsmouth on the Portsea in July 1838 and arrived in NSW on 18th Dec 1838. His prison number was 38/2377. He left behind a wife and six children, who then went on Parish relief as paupers in their small village of Dickleburgh, Norfolk. I have considerable information about the Norfolk family thoughout this period. I am really interested in finding out any information about John's time in NSW. He applied to have his wife and family on 1st July 1842. His family remained in England. His ticket of leave was dated 3rd Feb 1843 and it stated that John was allowed to remain in the District of Pittwater as a result of the recommendation of the Sydney Bench in 1842. This was amended on 29th Feb 1844 to allow John to be in the District of Yass, having left the service of a Mr Milson. His Certificate of Freedom, number No 45/213, was dated 20th Feb 1845. I would like to know where he was in his time in Australia? Did he return to England or did he die in Australia? I would really appreciate any assistance of advice on where I can go from this rather limited information. Thank you Sandra
