Hi Lesley, thank you so much, yes I do have a news report it is only on the arrest, there were 4 of them, all sales men on a drunken spree, it is said they passed a counterfeit coin at the turn gate, and broke into a house into a house. I had Richard Callanan do a lot of research he was good but could not identify Daniels parents . Daniel was born between 1808 and 1810, there are several Daniel Fowlers born around that time I have ruled out the one in Bridport, and Daniel Fowler the artist who went to Canada. Daniel claimed to be born in Stover Bristol which makes sense as his mother seemed to be known there. I have found in recent years he was a boatman for Fredrick Garling the artist, until Daniel was killed accidently, when some timbers fell on him. Its a needle in a haystack, I have an elderly cousin who has spent her life on this research I would love to solve it for her. I would like to join the brick wallers on list. After many years of unsuccessful research and paying researchers, I just wonder If with all the experience of this list I might strike it lucky. My Ancestor Daniel Fowler came to Australia as a convict in 1832 on the Isabella 4. Daniel according to records left a wife and 4 children in England, I have information on his trial in England it mentions his mother only as Mrs Fowler who made an appeal using Business men in Bristol also to appeal for his life, it was successful and converted to 7 years. My brick wall, I can not find Daniels mothers name, his fathers, or wife’s,any suggestions please, his last abode before his arrest in Taunton was Lane End Staffordshire where all the Pottery works were. Daniel was educated, and claimed to be involved in Pottery, he married again in Australia to Bridget Walsh I would like to find the English roots. Thank you Laraine

Hi Natalie Thanks for the welcome :-) I know a fair bit about Patrick at the moment ... he arrived on the "Countess of Harcourt" in 1822, got his Certificate of Freedom in 1829. He married Mary Ann DWYER, daughter of Michael DWYER and Mary DOYLE, in 1834. Together they had 3 children and travelled to South Australia where Patrick took up land. His 2 sons, James (b.1835) and John (b.1837), married 2 daughters of his friend and fellow-convict, Thomas O'SHAUGHNESSY. He died on his property in SA in 1872. What I don't know is how Patrick and Thomas spent their 7 year sentences - were they assigned? Who to? What did they do? And I don't know what they did after they received their freedom. I would appreciate any ideas about how to find out that information :-) Kind regards Eunice Eunice Donovan Calen QLD 4798 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Natalie Baig" <baigpath@gmail.com> To: <aus-pt-jackson-convicts@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 02, 2013 5:33 PM Subject: Re: [PJ] My convicts - Patrick GRACE and Thomas O'SHAUGHNESSY > Welcome Eunice, is there any specific information you are after on Patrick > or Thomas? In the absence of census information in Ireland between 1823-1837 the country was surveyed and each occupier listed according to the land held. The Tithes were a tax imposed to support the Established Church (Church of Ireland) which was the official religion at the time of Crown Rule. There is more information on the site and this is indexed by Forename, Surname, Townland, Parish and County. The image is available once a record is selected. The site was indexed by the Latter Day Saints in partnership with the National Archives. http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp Hope this is helpful in identifying the origins of some of your convict ancestors. Apologies all. My message was meant to go privately to Liz. Pam An Aussie transported to Rotorua, NZ
Hi Liz, I think this Thomas MORAN probably was one of mine, although I have him being called Terry rather than Tom. Not sure where I got that diminutive from. Still, it's possible for a person to be known as one thing in one group (say family) and another in a group of friends. I am surmising this connection, that it is "my" Thomas Terence MORAN based on dates and what's in the NSW BDM indices. I've found Frances' first marriage but not the death of her first husband. So a few questionmarks there. Attaching a chart for you. Can give more details if you wish. Thanks Liz, I'll take this off-list with you and reply privately since it's not a convict. (I have 8 Thomas MORANs in my lot so far and not sure if I have yours or not.) Hi Graham, Thanks you for your reply and apologies for lack of detail in my query. I'll blame my brain fade on having a face-ache from a molar extraction. :-( I don't have access to the ARK (?GRK) or many convict records except what is on State Records website and some indices, including GSV's index to indents. I do have the 1828 census CD which I've not yet checked, but would be grateful for info from the 1837 muster, thank you. I don't yet know anything else about these convicts except they were convicted in Galway which is why I'm trying to research them. I usually try to start with Indent information if possible. Our library has the index to indents on fiche, but that's all. What I'm trying to do is investigate if these MORAN convicts have connections with my several other Galway MORAN families who were not convicts and who arrived for the most part in the 1850s & 1860s. These Christian same names are all used over and over in my MORAN families. Since I posted my query, it was pointed out to me that there was also another Galway convict: Mary MORAN per John Bull 1821 so if anyone is able to help I'd be very grateful for indent or other info on her too, please. Again, apologies and thanks for taking me to task. :-) Kind regards Pam An Aussie transported to Rotorua, NZ At 08:35 a.m. 31-05-2013 +1000, Grahame Thom wrote: >Hi Pam > >Can check the 1837 Muster, but my question to you is, what do you >have already, as listers wont want to duplicate anything you have on hand? > >cheers > >Grahame > >On 30/05/2013, at 1:55 PM, Pam Dowling wrote: > > > Good afternoon Listers, from a freezing cold Rotorua > > > > Just wondering if anyone has access to Indent or other information > > and could lookup details for these three convicts for me please: > > > > Moran, Michael1832Eliza 11 (4) > > Moran, Patrick1832Eliza 11 (4) > > Moran, John1836Captain Cook (3)
