Records indicate that this Catherine was born about 1810. The Catherine Kennedy convicts have been researched. I would like to hear from anybody with any information on John Michael Heffernan (my great grandfather). I know from various newspaper articles John lived in Richmond NSW from at least 1876 until late 1881, when he and de facto wife Eliza Greenhalgh nee Kennedy left, possibly for inner Sydney (Redfern/Waterloo area). Also a John Harris of Nepean was a witness to the marriage of Mary Skinn to Ralph Cross in 1837. My William Harris (Dunvegan? Castle) from Clapham Surrey had a sister who married a Skinn about 1800. I am thinking she may have been the first wife of convict William Skinn who was convicted at the Old Bailey in 1810. You mentioned that Hadley House is still standing, as is Thomas Clarkson's house at Raby. The Millington's later owned Thomas's house, and I have a Millington / Cross connection as well as the Cross / Skinn connection. I would like to hear from anybody with any information on John Michael Heffernan (my great grandfather). I know from various newspaper articles John lived in Richmond NSW from at least 1876 until late 1881, when he and de facto wife Eliza Greenhalgh nee Kennedy left, possibly for inner Sydney (Redfern/Waterloo area). Eliza was born at Nepean approx. 1839/40 to Donald Kennedy, son of convict Donald Kennedy arr 1792 on Royal Admiral and Cecilia Frazer, daughter of convict James Frazer arr 1809 on Hindostan. While in Richmond John and Eliza had 3 children: John Michael (my grandfather 1876-1933), Johanna (1877-1966 married name Henley), Robert Emanuel (1880-1903). These 3 births were registered as Greenhalgh but at some point the children all started using the Heffernan name. Prior to taking up with John Michael Heffernan, Eliza married William Greenhalgh at Castlereagh in 1861. Their children were: Mary, Robert, Donald, Sarah and Sydney. Eliza died 1911 in Newington Asylum. Little is known of John senior, other than occupations labourer and railway work (from children's B D & M certs). Thanks, Kerry.

Hi Warren I have an interest in the Skin/Skinn family as their surname is sometimes interpreted incorrectly to be Ikin, one of my lines. As an example, I suggest the following entry from the NSW BDM online index is wrong and is the baptism of Mary Ellen mentioned in your message. Hi Laraine, I have William Harris convict of the Dunvegan? Castle who married Mary, the daughter of convict Thomas Clarkson. Many researchers had thought that this William Harris was the son of James Harris of the102nd regiment and Veterans Corp (second fleeter) who married Eliza Phillips 1810. James was from Shere, Surrey. I was of the opinion that James Harris was given a land grant at Prospect, about where the Dam / Reservoir is presently located. I think James was a next door neighbour of L'Andre. The death of a Mary Skin at Eastern Creek in 1860 (per Trove) indicates she was at the residence of her step-son John Harris Gold-miners Arms Inn. Also a John Harris of Nepean was a witness to the marriage of Mary Skinn to Ralph Cross in 1837. My William Harris (Dunvegan? Castle) from Clapham Surrey had a sister who married a Skinn about 1800. I am thinking she may have been the first wife of convict William Skinn who was convicted at the Old Bailey in 1810. You mentioned that Hadley House is still standing, as is Thomas Clarkson's house at Raby. The Millington's later owned Thomas's house, and I have a Millington / Cross connection as well as the Cross / Skinn connection. Hi Grahame, Thanks for your reply. I am in agreement with you as regards Mary Ellen Skinn's birth. There is also a birth for a Rachael Skinn 1816 and Charles Skin 1821 (as Ikin), died 1822 (as Skin - infant). I really need to find if there is a Harris and perhaps an Allen and Jackson family connection as well (I have a Joseph Allen at Liverpool). I think that Ross Beattie has the marriage for William Skinn as to Jane Hoste. The Colonial Secretary's correspondence has William Skinn associated with Joshua John Moore and Thomas Moore. If I remember correctly convict Daniel Allen and William Sherwin also had connections with Thomas Moore.
