Hi Dianne That would be her. Thanks for the info about Lawrence Turtle. I'll look into it. Cheers and thanks Janine. I have been researching the family of John Bradshaw from the Whitelands townland of southern Tipperary with a daughter named Catherine who came to NSW in 1849 with the rest of family using a free passage. During this searching I came across another Catherine Bradshaw listed online @Ancestry.com in the Australian Convict Index (Reakes) age 25 year 1839 Birth Place: Tipperary county State:NSW Status:M.1m Ship: Minerva 6 Occupation: Dairymaid. She may be your Catherine? As I too live at a distance from just about everywhere - Lawrence Turtle (Turtle Consolisated Services http://home.iprimus.com.au/turtle) will do lookups @ NSW State Archives ( Kingswood ) at a fair price. Hi Clare That time frame is difficult William Wilson (free per Reliance) is listed in the 'Musters and Lists NSW and Norfolk Island 1800 - 180'2 in the 1801 section when he was free. The next Muster available is the 'Musters of NSW and NI 1805 - 1806' and he is listed as being conditionally pardoned. He is not listed in the NI section taken as at February 1805. I have James DINGLE, sentenced to Norkfolk Island in 1830. He managed to escape in May 1833. Does anyone have a source that might help me know whether or not the found him, and what happened afterwards? Rosalee -in Newcastle, where its raining !
By this stage ie 1830 Properly Ironed is likely to mean he was wearing broad leg-irons ones with an approximately 5 cms cuff made of flat iron not the standard round leg irons which could be made oval and slipped off. There were instructions 1829-30 (published in HRA) about convicts in heavy iron gangs having to wear the broad cuffed leg-irons to prevent escape and there was correspondence later about some still not wearing the proper leg irons. Regards Elizabeth Roberts >From the CD "Index of Colonial Convict Movements 1827 to 1853" produced by the Descendents of Convicts Group, Thomas DUCKWORTH arrived in the Colony on the Eliza 4 and was later transported to Norfolk Island on the Lucy Anne on 03/05/1830. Under "Remarks" is the Statement "Properly Ironed".

Hi Janine You would have to check the: Female Factory Index--Parramatta 1826--1848 or perhaps the post 1825 Colonial Sec. Index by Joan Reese. I think that Catherine did not obtain either a TOL or a Certificate of Freedom as many females didn't' bother. I realise that you are living in a very isolated place and that is the reason why I provided you with the info about Edward as I had transcribed it some time ago...... but I do not have at home either of the above two Indices. There was a time when I would pop up to my library many times a week to check these for listers but my time is no longer my own and I can no longer do that. Have you thought to approach the Halls Creek Library and ask if they would purchase various books, microfiche/microfilm or CDs about convicts ? If it makes you feel any better not all of us have easy access to everything... even those of us who live in Sydney. I guess you could use the "ask a Librarian" service - say - at the State Library of NSW. regards Lesley Uebel mailto:ckennedy@bigpond.net.au CLAIM A CONVICT http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/index.html -----Original Message----- From: aus-pt-jackson-convicts-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-pt-jackson-convicts-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of janine h Sent: Sunday, December 28, 2008 9:51 PM To: aus-pt-jackson-convicts@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PJ] Catherine Bradshaw Hi Lesley, Where would I find this type of information please?
