    3. Hi Christine, Yes, he was a convict per Larkins. His eldest daughter married into my Rose family and the others into other well known Hawkesbury families - Brown, Teale, Bushell, Asprey and Turnbull (loads of convicts in that lot) and did his grandchildren. regards Lesley Uebel mailto:ckennedy@bigpond.net.au CLAIM A CONVICT http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/index.html -----Original Message----- From: aus-pt-jackson-convicts-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-pt-jackson-convicts-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of christine Sent: Monday, January 05, 2009 4:06 PM To: aus-pt-jackson-convicts@rootsweb.com Subject: [PJ] James Winton Hi all, I think I just found another convict ancester. 3. Hi List My ancestor Edward Murphy arrived on the convict ship "St Vincent" in 1837. He was one of two Edward Murphy's on the St Vincent. Although his wife, Mary and son, Michael were to follow him 2 years later on board "Margaret 2" I have no evidence that they met up again and wonder if Edward remarried in Australia. I am wondering if someone with the Convicts permissions to marry CD could check to see if there was an application to marry made. Thanks to all Donna

    3. Over the past few weeks this list has been receiving lots of emails from members who do not snip the messages before posting. In other words they send messages with lots of previous messages still attached…. sometimes as many as 6!. Apart from the fact that is a Rootsweb guideline to remove them as they take up too much space on their system, is that some listers are on dial up and cannot afford to keep downloading the same messages over and over again. It is basic etiquette to delete them apart from the particular one to which you are responding. If replying to a long message with just a comment, I ask that you delete most it, just leaving a portion of it. It is worth considering that Rootsweb have to archive these repeated messages and it must take up a huge space on their system – they provide this service free, so please let’s help them back in return. Some of the extra long messages get stuck in the Rootsweb system as they are far too large, as are those from listers who insist on using Incredimail and I do not release these to the list. I realise that one can get very excited about receiving an answer and forget to snip, but most times they are from the same people time and time again. So please consider your fellow listers and Rootsweb before clicking Send. There is no need to respond to this message although if you feel a need to, then please do so to me privately. regards Lesley Uebel mailto:ckennedy@bigpond.net.au

    3. Hi Pat Yes, some messages are coming through late but I cannot do anything about it. When a person claims a convict there is no reason for me to know if they have claimed the wrong one. I usually check my database to see if the details are correct and if they are I add the claim. In this case your friend Jill did claim the correct one and the ship noted on my web site is correct i.e. John Hawkes arrived in 1838 on board the transport "Earl Grey" - was tried in Stafford in 1837 and received a 7 years sentence. One way to help others with a convict is to claim that convict for yourself :) Regards Lesley Uebel mailto:ckennedy@bigpond.net.au CLAIM A CONVICT http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/index.html -----Original Message----- From: aus-pt-jackson-convicts-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-pt-jackson-convicts-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Pat Pitts Sent: Monday, January 05, 2009 10:44 AM To: aus-pt-jackson-convicts@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PJ] JOHN HAWKES Lesley I only received this email today despite it being sent on the 28/12/08. 3. Kath This is very interesting - could be your grt grt gran was born there at Cavan Station when my JOHN HAWKES was working there. I always knew there were things kept secret in my family as back in those days (1950s onwards) it was considered terrible coming from convicts. The Hawkes line in particular was never discussed much. My father always said that there was a convict or two there though. He is 82 now and quite excited about all my finds. Thanks for all your assistance.
