Hi Lesley, Thank you for the information. Sorry about the multiple emails, I am having a spot of bother with my computer at the moment. Yes, it is the Michael Minton on the Prince Regent 11 (1) 1821 that I am following. I guess what I would like to find out is if he remained with John Wylde at Brownlow Hill or was he sent to "Gobolion" near Wellington. Do you know if there is a list of convicts for this property? Regards Elaine
Hi Lesley, Sorry I didn't answer all of your question in my return email. John Minton was my g/grandfather. On his death certificate his father's name is given as Michael Minton. No mother's name. I am looking at all the Michael Minton's I can find to either find a connection or eliminate. Given the country areas where John grew up I think a parent with a convict background is possible. John was born around 1836. no registration of his birth in NSW or Vic. Regards Elaine
Hi Elaine Are you confusing the ships numbers ? I use those by Charles Bateson because the transports arrived in a few different colonies and the convicts moved between the different colonies eg from NSW to VDL and from VDL to NSW. The transport on which your Michael Minton arrived was the Prince Regent II (1) in 1821 and if you check the Indent it states it was the Prince Regent 2 as it was the second transport to arrive *with that name* although the Prince Regent I and Prince Regent II were different ships. The Prince Regent I (2) arrived in 1824 and the Indent states it was the Prince Regent 3 as it was the third ship to arrive with that name.... but it was not the same ship that arrived in 1821. . Prince Regent I (1) 27.1.1820 to PJ Prince Regent I (2) 15.7.1824 to PJ Prince Regent I (3) 27.9.1827 to PJ Prince Regent II (1) 9.1.1821 to PJ Prince Regent I (4) to VDL in 1830 Prince Regent II (20 to VDL in 1842 I don't know what Brent or Lyn supplied you with privately so it's a bit hard to comment on those There is no other Minton or Menton mentioned in any Muster or the 1828 NSW Census who arrived in 1824. First Brent, thank you I will followup on the information you have provided. I believe the birth registration for James is a child belonging to Michael Minton who arrived on the PrInce Regent 1 (2) or (3) on 15th July 1824. He was convicted in Dublin County in 1820, his crime being -having forged notes, he was aged 36 yrs. and his term was 14yrs This MM had 3 children to Rose Murray (John,James and Michael). I have found that there are many cases where information on the MM arriving1821 and the MM arriving 1824 have been combined and presented as one persons history; probably because there are several similarities eg. name' place and year of conviction. Lesley,I found the records on MM Prince Regent1 (2) or (3) 1824 at Kingswood on roll 2662. In the Melbourne State Library they only had the Microfiche. This MM was not mentioned on the list of convicts leaving the Prince Regent1 (2) at Port Jackson, however, he is mentioned on microfiche 658 Masters and Other Papers. Here they have him as Michael Menton. Prince Regent 1 (3) and the words Prince Regent 1 (2) hand written on the top of the microfiche.? I checked the microfiche re the list of names at the place of departure for the convicts on the prince Regent 1824 and there was no M Menton just M Minton so I thought it was safe to think that M Menton and M Minton are the same convict. However, it is the Michael Minton arriving in 1821 and indented to John Wylde that I am following. I hope I have got this right but I am more then happy to be corrected and I am open to any ideas. Hi Lesley, Sorry I didn't answer all of your question in my return email. John Minton was my g/grandfather. On his death certificate his father's name is given as Michael Minton. No mother's name. John's place of birth is Collingwood. I believe this could be Collingwood near Mudgee or there was a property down near Yass that was named "Collingwood" . I know that it is not Collingwood Victoria as I have investigated all the possibilities. I am looking at all the Michael Minton's I can find to either find a connection or eliminate. Given the country areas where John grew up I think a parent with a convict background is possible. Regards Elaine

Hi Elaine Does the DC give place of birth and names of parents? Was the family RC? Why I ask is that if these fields are blank then chase the church register. Hi Elaine and welcome to the PJ Convicts list, To my knowledge only two convicts arrived in PJ with that name - they being: Minton, Michael *CP 1802 Hercules I Westmeath 1800 Life Minton, Michael *A 1821 Prince Regent II (1) Dublin Co 1820 14 27yo and the various Musters confirm this. Michael who arrived on the Hercules was murdered in about 1824. I cannot find any convict with that name arriving on the Prince Regent I (2) in 1824. Why do you think he is your great great grandfather? regards Lesley Uebel mailto:ckennedy@bigpond.net.au CLAIM A CONVICT http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/index.html -----Original Message----- From: aus-pt-jackson-convicts-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-pt-jackson-convicts-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of ELAINE LEONIE SWEET Sent: Saturday, January 31, 2009 3:04 PM To: mailing list Subject: [PJ] Looking for help and assistance in my search for furtherinformation on Michael Minton arriving on Prince Regent 11 (1) 1821 Good afternoon to all the list members. The Newspaper records in Ireland for the transportation period are held on a database in the National Library (www.nli.ie) . If you go to the Irish transportation database and find your convict listed you might also see a reference no. if there is a petition this will have the letters PPC & a number. These petitions & other documents referring to family reunions have been filmed & are available in the State Library Sydney, family history section, you have to be lucky. Good afternoon to all the list members. I have just joined the list and have throughly enjoyed reading the many wonderful entries. I would like to ask for help/ guidance from the members in my search for a Michael Minton. who arrived on the Prince Regent 11 (1) in 1821. I am researching Michael to ascertain if he may be my g/g/grandfather. I am aware that there were 3 Michael Minton's transported to Port Jackson. (1) M.M. 1802 Hercules1 and M.M.1824 Prince Regent 1 (2). These two men have been throughly eliminated from my search. It is Michael Minton arriving in 1821 that I believe may have possibilities. Facts I have to date: Native place- County Galway Ireland. Convicted- Dublin County Feb. 1820. Sentenced- transportation 14yrs, arrived Port Jackson 9 Jan,1821.Source: fiche 645 page 259 film 395 (Kingswood Achives NSW). Assigned- 22 May 1823 to John Wylde. There is an entry in the Colonial Secretary's Index (1788-1825) stating Michael was to take charge of the the grazing run of John Wylde situated to the west of the government reserve land at Brownlow Hill. Michael received a Ticket of Freedom in 1834 and apart from a physical description of Michael there is no further information. I would be grateful if any list member is able to shed some light on how I can find out more information on Michael's movements. Did he stay at Brownlow Hill or would he have been moved to Bathurst when John Wylde took up grazing land near there? I believe the property was called "Gobolion". There is no registration of marriage or death on the NSW BDM in NSW or here in Vic. Any information or guidance would be most appreciated Thank You Elaine Sweet
Dear List, Went to a barbeque at my grandson's unit on Australia Day. He had a huge Australian flag draped over the settee and we had a toast to our First Fleeters and also to our new great grandson (five months) who is the latest generation. I said he was the ninth generation born here but before I fell asleep I was trying to count the generations without much success. Went straight to the computer next morning hoping it wasn't eight generations and found to my surprise that Jordan is the tenth generation born here! Everyone was very pleased. Are there any eleven generations from First Fleeters out there? Cheers, Cherilyn in still extremely hot Melbourne
