    3. Hi Lesley, Yes, it does sound odd the similarities. All the information I have sent about the Michael Minton's arrival at Port Jackson I have taken from microfiche and film in the Kingswood PRO. Michael Minton Prince Regent 11 (1) Fiche No. 645, page 259, film 395 shelf 4/4007. Index to Assignmen Register Fiche (1of 1) No. 745. Age 27yrs Michael Minton Prince Regent 1 arrived 1824- Fiche No. 658, page 018, film 2662 shelf 4/4009A age 36 yrs. Yes it was Musters and Other Papers Fiche 658. My g/ grandfather John Minton ( Michael Minton's son) was aged 76yrs when he died 1912 that gives his birthdate at abt.1836. The other Minton children were born in the mid 1840's . This is the information I have been working with. Regards Elaine

    2. Lesley Uebel
    3. Hi Elaine I have a problem in that I don't believe that there was a convict named Michael Minton who arrived in Port Jackson in 1824 on board the Prince Regent. My reasons are: He is not listed on the Indent for that transport He is not included in the 1823/4/5 General Muster He is not listed in the 1828 NSW Census He is not listed in the 1837 General Return of Convicts He did not receive a Certificate of Freedom He did not receive any pardon He did not receive a Ticket of Leave You said that he was tried County Dublin in 1820 and received a sentence of 14 years.... so therefore we have two people tried at the same place and the same time with the same name and identical sentences and both arrived on a transport with the same name - Prince Regent and arriving 3 years apart. I can believe that someone arrived as a convict and is not included on the Indent as this happened frequently, I can believe that a person may not be mentioned on a few of the above, but I doubt if a convict could escape a mention on all of them. You did say that he was mentioned in the "Masters and other papers" - do you mean Musters and other papers? as that may account for the different ages. You did say that you had disregarded the Michael who had children with Rose. The BDMs have the children of this children as: V18451761 134/1845 MINTON JOHN MICHAEL ROSE V18472360 64/1847 MINTON JAMES MICHAEL ROSE V18432703 133/1843 MINTON MICHAEL MICHAEL ROSE The deaths state that John died in 1917 and a Michael died in 1918 and then there your Michael who died in 1912. Could the Michael who died in 1918 be James and the incorrect name be recorded? It is difficult for me as I don't have the documents that you have and decided you against Michael and Rose or against the Michael Minton who arrived in 1821 Regards Lesley Uebel mailto:ckennedy@bigpond.net.au CLAIM A CONVICT http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/index.html -----Original Message----- From: aus-pt-jackson-convicts-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-pt-jackson-convicts-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of ELAINE LEONIE SWEET Sent: Sunday, February 01, 2009 8:37 AM To: AUS-PT-JACKSON-CONVICTS@rootsweb.com Subject: [PJ] Looking for help and assistance in my search for Michael Minton Hi Lesley, Thank you for the information. 3. Hi Elaine, Lesley, everyone I only sent Elaine a couple of police gazette refs to a Michael Minton getting into trouble around Braidwood/South Coast in the 1860s; a mention in Govt Gazette 1842 of intestate estate balance for a "Michael (? James) Minton"; and some newpspaer refs at the NLA [ http://preview.tinyurl.com/ac8c2o]. Gobolion/Gobawlion/Gobawlin was/(is?) a property a couple of miles north of Wellington on the RHS of the Macquarie. It's mentioned a few times in the diaries of missionaries who took over from the convict stockade in the 1830s. Hilary Carey & David Roberts created a website containing these diaries at [ http://www.newcastle.edu.au/group/amrhd/wvp/index.html]<http://www.newcastle.edu.au/group/amrhd/wvp/index.html> . <http://www.newcastle.edu.au/group/amrhd/wvp/index.html> There is no mention of a Minton in it, unfortunately most of the convicts are nameless, simply described as "ticket-of-leave men". Sturt & Hume stopover at Gobolion on the 7th of December 1828 en route to discover the socalled inland sea, but no mention of Minton, again many of the convicts who feature in the explorer's diary are anonymous. In the index of the "Letters of John Maxwell: Superintendent of Government Stock 1823-1831" (Smith & Lloyd, 1982), there are many convicts mentioned but not Minton. Maxwell was involved with cattle and convicts at Bathurst and Wellington Valley :) Regards Brent

    3. Hi Elaine Your Michael Minton per Prince Regent II (1) (1821) is listed in the 1823/4/5 General Muster List of NSW as a Government Servant to Lieut. Wilde (Wylde) at Cawdor. This Muster also lists the Michael Minton per Hercules I - murdered 1824 and Michael Minton aged 1 - son of widow Minton. These are the only three Michael Minton's mentioned in this Muster Your Michael Minton is not included in the 1828 NSW Census and the only one included in this Census is the one born in about 1824 (above) The convicts assigned to Lady Wylde are included in the 1828 NSW Census at various places i.e. Wellington Valley, Cabramatta, Sydney, Bathurst, Goulburn Plains - 36 convicts all up Regards Lesley Uebel mailto:ckennedy@bigpond.net.au CLAIM A CONVICT http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/index.html -----Original Message----- From: aus-pt-jackson-convicts-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-pt-jackson-convicts-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of ELAINE LEONIE SWEET Sent: Sunday, February 01, 2009 8:37 AM To: AUS-PT-JACKSON-CONVICTS@rootsweb.com Subject: [PJ] Looking for help and assistance in my search for Michael Minton Hi Lesley, Thank you for the information. 1. [PJ] Relations of convicts coming to Australia
    2. Marina Grainger
    3. Hi Listers, Convict John Grainger, Mangles (2) left 2 brothers in Ireland. One of those brothers, Thomas, died in Valparaiso, Chile, on 12.5.1861. Recently, it has been suggested he was on route BACK to Ireland from Australia. No one knows why he was here. Perhaps to find his brother? John Grainger died in 1860 in Prospect NSW. I have some information that Thomas "was late of Beechwood, New South Wales" (near Port Macquarie). Not sure what this means as this phrase I quote from a historian in Ireland. I am hoping to try and re-trace some of his footsteps, but not sure where to start. His brother was a convict and he would've known this. Not sure where the Beechwood connection is. Is it known that some relations of convicts sent here, came to find them? Thank you for any help. Marina.
