Hi Would like to add my appreciation to Linda for starting up this mailing list. My interest in Western NSW is as follows: William Frederick STANBURY (1851-1918) m. 1877 Hannah OLDMAN in Bourke NSW. They had eight children : Harrie Chester b. 1878 Bourke Zilla Grace b. 1880 Wilcannia m. George WALLACE Violette b. 1882 Wilcannia Ida Darling b. 1884 Reid St Wilcannia Eva Mary Wilcannia b. 1887 Reid St Wilcannia Edith Netallie b. 1889 Reid St Wilcannia Charles Wentworth b.1891 Reid St Wilcannia m. Matilda Jane CHARD (my grandparents) Arthur William John b.1893 Reid St Wilcannia m. Bertha WILLS It would appear from the childrens middle names that William and Hannah had a great love of the Western district. William Frederick STANBURY, according to family legend, was the Town Clerk and also the Mayor of Wilcannia. His occupation is listed as Cordial Manufacturer and he is buried at White Cliffs. An historian from White Cliffs seems to remember seeing a story about William Frederick being jailed over a robbery committed with a Jack Burgess in the early 1900's. Have not been able to get to the National Library to confirm these stories as yet. Would love to hear from any one researching this family, or anyone who may be able to confirm the above stories.
