Hi Maxine, If you looked at the information already on this website you would see that in my Publicans' Licenses I have the Bancannia Lake Hotel 35 km north of Fowler's Gap on the Broken Hill to Tibooburra Road. Your Samuel SMITH held the license not just for 1890, but from 1889 to 1896/7. Dansie's unpublished work listing publicans' licenses is at the Broken Hill Library. He gives the Bancannia Lake Hotel as a stone building with a corrugated iron roof. The building was said to have three stone wings surrounding a paved courtyard. It was burnt to the ground in April 1918 and a temporary shack was erected. The license was eventually cancelled in 1937. There is a photo of the hotel in 1915. However Dansie is wrong in saying that Samuel SMITH only held the license 1894/5, with a new license having to be issued to Stephen ANGUS in 1897. As I have said above, SMITH held the license 1889-1896/7. For general reading on the Milparinka area and the times could I suggest John Gerritsen's Tibooburra Corner Country.
