Hi List The Macquarie dictionary gives the colloquial meaning of stand as "to bear the expense of; pay for". So I guess this was the meaning in the letter. Jill
I agree with Jill, I heard one of my brothers telling a mate he would "Stand" him until he got a job. Then his mate could pay him back.
