Hi in order to find out more about my FRAPE BOON BALMAN families I e-mailed Broken Hill Council about Cemetery Records. They replied that they only have Broken Hill on computer and it would cost $70.00 per hour for a search or $92 for a CD which I will probably purchase. But I am wondering if anyone has access to the surrounding areas Cemetery Records: Silverton Wilcannia Menindee Ivanhoe Tibooburra Cockburn I am really hoping this will help fill in some gaps, so I would appreciate any assistance in locating these records. Many thanks Sue Frape South Australia
Hi I just had to reply to this one. I cannot believe that Broken Hill council would charge this much. Computer records should be easy to look up. I have phoned Orange Council some years ago to look up Cemetery Records, they are also on computer, they have taken the particulars and then rung me back nearly straight away, with the information and as well as that they posted to me a printout of the information plus photocopies from the original interment register with a plan of the cemetery and marked on it the position of the graves when I asked how much the answer was no charge.. It made it so easy when I visited the cemetery some 6 months later to take photos, to be able to locate the graves from the map that was sent. Hi, I am amazed that Broken Hill Council are like that. I telephoned Wollongong Council regarding graves and cremations and they asked me to hold the line whilst they looked up the things for me straight away and they also rang me back later with some others. Marie
Hi Sue, The council is definitely not the right place to look for this information (especially if they charge fees like that!) You could send your request to the archives in the Charles Rasp Library as suggested by Tony Moore. I also hold available records for most of the places you mention. I would be happy to assist where I can.
