    3. Hi All I subscribed to this list a little while ago, and have been sitting back and watching. My rsearch involves properties, I love the old properties and would love to be able to go back in time to see the history they could tell, and because I'm looking for when a property first started, I need to look at the squatters as well, because I think they were the beginning, in most cases. Annyway, what I'm actually doing, is trying to find who owned the property in the beginning and then any other owner along the line, then I try to find out about the people who lived there, died there, worked there, and anything else I can find. Is there anyone who may be able to help me with the western region. Many thanks Pam Dalby Qld

    3. Hello Pamela I am at this time compiling a history on the explorer William Lawson of "Vteran Hall", Prospect and the men of the family. I have managed through the "Government Gazette's to trace the squatters and their holdings. The information in the Gazettes gives the name of the Run the name and leasee of adjoining Runs, the suggested amount of stock able to be run on the property and the estimated area covered. You will also have the boundary's where the rivers and ranges are also named. I at first started very early the 1840's though on being directed to the book "Hanson's Pastoral Directories" have been able to find the owners of the runs over forty years alter. A short while ago "The State Record Authority" were selling for $1 the following publication "Surveyor General Select List of Maps and Plans 1792-1886 Supplement". This gives: AO Map No. Surveyor General Catalogue No: Area: Description: Surveyor: Date: This is a wonderful source of information and if not available for purchase at this time both research rooms have a copy available for use. I found many interesting subject matters, maps, drafts of eg: Argyl Cut ; Plans of towns etc: I found a map of one of the areas I am interested in which actually gives you a map of the area and diagrams of the Lawson and Cox huts on their Run's. Held in the "Land Titles Office" according to the staff at the Archives are the maps that they don't have regarding the location of the Run's, another map which is supposed to be held at the Mitchell Library is the 1859 map "Reuss & Brownes Squatting Map".
