Dear Alison, I have two different types of information regarding the ROWE clan. The first may be a direct connection, but I don't want to get your hopes too high. My grandfather's elder sister Elizabeth MONKS married a James Sydney ROWE from Meroo Creek, Mudgee, NSW. I would expect that John Graham will probably have everything about every ROWE in NSW. His wife is the the grand-daughter of the above family. The name Lillian turns up in that family. As far as ^^^ALL^^^ the names go you will understand why, since he is the infamous......... John Graham who is the keeper of the keys of "Sydney Dead Persons Society" and "Genealogy from Gerringong" johngrah@ozemail.com.au http://members.ozemail.com.au/~johngrah/dps.html Today I have played with the free on line birth, death and marriage indexes in NSW http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au Registration Number; Last Name; Given Name(s); Father's Given Name(s); Mother's Given Name(s); District; 35184/1886; ROWE; WILLIAM G; JAMES; LILLIAN; WILCANNIA; 36158/1887; ROWE; MARY E; JAMES; LILLIAN; WILCANNIA; 36039/1889; ROWE; BESSIE F; JAMES B; LILLIAN; WILCANNIA; 15269/1901; ROWE; MARY T; LILLIAN C; NEWTOWN; 4245/1903; ROWE; DAPHNE J; ALFRED J; LILLIAN J G; LITHGOW; 18161/1900; ROWE; GEORGE C; JAMES P; LILLIAN; WILCANNIA; This one appeared under a search for James. This is either an "oops" or she was Baptised Lil(l)ian Madeline and was known as Madeline Rowe, or something was chewed up by a transcriber 36872/1897 ROWE SOPHY G JAMES B MADELINE L WILCANNIA The birth listings stop at 1905 The on-line birth listing grow complex if you search using James as the father, and extremely complex if you introduce Lithgow into the plan DEATHS......... with mother as Lillian Registration Number; Last Name; Given Name(s); Father's Given Name(s); Mother's Given Name(s;) District; 13792/1890 ROWE WILLIAM G JAMES B LILIAN WILCANNIA 2243/1903; ROWE; DAPHNE J; ALFRED J; LILLIAN J G; LITHGOW; 8167/1906; ROWE; MARY E; JAMES B; LILLIAN; SOUTH BROKEN HILL; 2624/1913; ROWE; ALLAN M; ALFRED J; LILLIAN J; LITHGOW; 8074/1943; ROWE; THOMAS; 43 YRS BROKEN HILL; LILLIAN; BROKEN HILL The death listings stop at 1945 Marriages:........... Trying to search using .... Sop* ROWE I found this 11026/1944 GALLIMORE CYRIL ARTHUR EDWARD D ROWE ALICE SOPHIA MURWILLUMBAH I don't know if he Sophia" is recorded as "S" so it might be ....... 3824/1923; MACLEOD; RODERICK G; ROWE; GERTRUDE S; WELLINGTON 3824/1923; MCLEOD; RODERICK G; ROWE; GERTRUDE S; WELLINGTON 13509/1927; ROWE; GEORGE C J; STEWART; AMY A M; BURWOOD; Could this be George Courtney ROWE senior's son ??....or GC ROWE senior's second marriage?? 34523/1942; ROWE; GEORGE COURTNEY; DISCOMBE; RUBY IRIS; WYONG; Sometimes, but not always, the pioneer CD's at your local library MIGHT have a full name; sometimes there's a minute difference between the on-line, the CD's and the Microfiche. You may have to see who has the Microfiche of the BDM's. I don't know much about the probate indexes, but if you have a date of death, you may be able to ferret out the full name. If there's knowledge of where the person was buried you may be able to access cemetery records. Example Rookwood is on CD Eastern Suburbs cemeteries have plenty of ROWEs buried there.... http://www.esmp.nsw.gov.au/grave_search.php Happy Hunting, Tony Moore (Balgo, Western Australia) @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ On 30 Nov 2003 at 15:03, Alison wrote: > Dear Listers > I have had an email from an elderly ex-missionary living in Thailand > who has recently been introduced to the joys of the internet for > family history research.
