I have completed a list of Publicans Licenses for 1865-1900 for Western NSW, and for 1865-1870 for Central NSW - about 1400 hotels. To accompany this I have taken articles and advertisements from the newspapers of the time, and extracts from books, to give a glimpse of what life was like for the holders of these Publican's Licenses. Included in this section are some BRIEF histories (a couple of paragraphs) of some of the families who were in some way involved with the hotels. Does anyone have any information that they would like to contribute to this section - be it information on the hotels (for that period), or their own "hotel-family" history? Both sections will be available on NSW-WEST when Linda is given the material and undertakes this mammoth task. Regards......................Rusheen.
Don't know whether these will be of any help Rusheen but here are a few bits and pieces: Source: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=col bran&id=I2019 ID: I2019 Name: John COLBRAN Sex: M Birth: 6 Jul 1857 in North Richmond, NSW, Australia Death: 13 Sep 1913 in Molong Hospital, NSW, Australia Burial: 14 Sep 1913 Roman Catholic, Molong, NSW, Australia Occupation: Hotel Keeper Thomas Adam Borthwick married Lily Maud Geyer on Apr 12, 1906 at Menindee, NSW. His in-laws, Henry Frederick Christian Geyer and Margaret Rogers, were said to be hoteliers at Old Tintinallogy on the Darling River. Thomas and Lily's first two children were born at Tintinallogy, the next two at Wilcannia, and the remainder in NZ (Lawrence, Otago; Patea, Taranaki; Okahukura, King Country; Taumarunui, King Country; Ohura, King Country). Some of Thomas' descendants are living in Australia. Unfortunately I don't have any other information about Lily's family. Thank you Ann. Good to see that the message, that has been hidden in the bowels of Rootsweb for over a month, should surface and get a result. I can't find a reference for Colbran as a publican - but this would be because Molong is in the Central Region which I only covered for 6 years. However your Henry Geyer did have the Old Tintinallogy Hotel from 1888 to at least 1900.There are also Rogers associated with the hotel - William Rogers 1868 to 1875; Elizabeth Rogers 1879. In the intervening years 1876-1878 the publican was George Kidman - ? brother of the famous Sidney Kidman, the Cattle King. Hello again Rusheen I've just realised that William Rogers may have been a relative of Henry Geyer. Henry Geyer's wife was a Margaret Rogers. I haven't checked but Henry and Margaret were probably married in the 1880s.
