    3. Mary Wilson is the expert on Menindee and the surrounding area. Referring to Maiden's Menindie/Menindee Hotel, she writes: "The hotel itself, came into the hands of the Maiden family before 1880, and the licence was held by that family until 1979." Starting as a grog shanty in the early 1850s, the hotel at Menindie was a well established building by the 1860 Burke and Wills' visit. In 1879 William Maiden was the first of the Maiden family to hold the license. He again held the license 1881-1885, and 1897 to at least 1900 (when I stopped copying the records). His brother George held the license in 1891. If the Maiden family held the license continuously from 1879, could somebody please tell me how the following licensees were related to the Maidens? 1879-1880 Edis Palmer (taking over from Maiden part way through the year). 1880-1881 Werribee (Weriba) Pyke. 1882 (part of) Henry H.Church. 1886-1890 John Hugh Gordon. 1892 Robert F.Welcome. Regards ...............Rusheen.
