Hi List, One of my enduring interests is photographers, especially travelling photographers on the Darling River. Not that I know much about them. But I presume they travelled on the steamers. When I look at some of my family photos I find them set up with temporary props in the background made from logs, and gravel underfoot. While, at a certian period, photographers had logs and stuffed owls in studios, they rarely went to the trouble of having gravel. So they are a monty for travelling photographers. The main one I know of is Henry Stephens who I think was based in Wentworth. Another who interests me is W.D. Thrower, who was at Wilcannia and then later in my Gippsland, Victoria area at Warragul. I am unsure if Thrower actually travelled. Does anyone know anything about these photographers, or any others who travelled on the Darling River steamers??? Or can anyone name any local photographers with exact dates they operated. I am happy to give them a page on the NSWW web site. It can always help someone else date photos.
