Nettiquette and this List Hi Everyone, This is a semi-regular reminder, posted to this list, in the hope that it may make life easier for all. Firstly, this list works on the principle that the free and open exchange of information can only make it a better place for us all to carry out our research. REPLIES TO LIST This list is set so that replies go, by default, back to the list, and not the person who posted (unless they have an over-ride set). This means more information is shared with the whole list. However, as some people actually pay for their internet use by download, it would really be appreciated if people are just returning messages with comments like "Thanks Fred" at the top, that they would do so personally, off-list, to the person concerned. You should be able to find their e-mail address on the post to cut and paste it into the address section of your reply. CUTTING OLD MESSAGES It is really important in list-life to cut all unnecessary sections out of old messages before replying to the list. This especially applies to the footers used, and the endless additions sometimes recycled time and time again on the bottom of messages. To do this, you just highlight the unwanted text and hit your delete button. This is important not only for those who pay by downloads, but also those who are on the Digest form of the list, where sometimes you need a cut lunch and a compass to find your way around in the mire of all the repeated messages. Digest readers really love the posters who cut the old messages. OFF TOPIC POSTS To avoid duplication, and to keep the list on topic, posts should be about or directly relevant to the region of Western NSW. Posts of a more general nature (including information about websites not related to Western NSW), should be directed to the more general lists eg AUS-NSW and GENANZ. Listers wishing to receive such general posts are also encouraged to subscribe to the lists. If in doubt about the relevance of a post, the list-admin can be consulted offlist at AUS-NSW-WEST-admin@rootsweb.com SUBJECT HEADINGS Having a relevant subject heading really maximises your chances of catching the attention of those who often do not even open a message unless they know it applies to them. Try and include a surname and a place if appropriate, rather than headings such as "Family History" VIRUS WARNINGS We have been pretty good about this recently, but please keep in the back of your mind that virus warnings and discussion are off-topic, and are not to be posted to the list. While I appreciate they are sent with the best of intentions, often we do not know as much as we think we do, and can end up causing more harm than good. CROSS POSTING Please do not cross post (ie send the same message to this list and another list at the same time) unless there is very definite material specifically about the list area in the post. Apologising about it (and off topic posts) in advance, as you do it, does not make it okay. It just means you know you should not do it, but are going to do it anyway. Thanks for reading to the bottom. The good will of people on the list is appreciated, and your willingness to assist others and keep the list as happy a place as possible for them is much appreciated. Hi Harold, Electoral Rolls are available at the State Library in Sydney - which doesn't help you much from where you are. I am afraid that I am too snowed under with other things to do a 20 year lookup for you at the moment. If someone else can't do it for you in the meantime, remind me of what you are after in about a month and I'll see what I can find for you. There are the 1887 Property Holders that I have done for the areas that you mention - but this does not cover everyone living in the areas. The Property Holders are on NSW-W at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/NSWW/1887_property_holders.html Regards ..............Rusheen. > From: "gross harold" <gross1925@hotmail.com> > Reply-To: AUS-NSW-WEST-L@rootsweb.com > Date: Wed, 28 Jul 2004 21:46:14 +0700 > To: AUS-NSW-WEST-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [NSW-W] Electoral Rolls > Resent-From: AUS-NSW-WEST-L@rootsweb.com > Resent-Date: Wed, 28 Jul 2004 08:57:34 -0600 > > Greetings from Bangkok ! > > Can anyone telll me if electoral rolls, federal and/or state, are available > for Broken Hill, Broken Hill South and Wilcannia, for the period 1885-1905, > and if so, how they can be accessed ? > > Harold Gross

Hi all, I'm trying to trace William Phillip Bowman (b. 1860 Bendigo) and his wife Margaret King (b. 1862 Narranderra) who married in Ivanhoe NSW in 1888. Their six children were all born in the Hillston, Lake Cargellico area - Bertha Maud, Alexander Phillip, Emily, William Arthur, Victor Henry and Edward David. Margaret was the daughter of Edward King (b. Woolwich, England) and Anne Ewin/Ewan born in Moama 1844. Their three children that I know of were Margaret, Edward and David Thomas. Many thanks, Di _________________________________________________________________ Feeling spent? Hoping someone can help me with the last link in my father's family. I am chasing details of Mary Agnes Hickey, born about 1900 at Echuca, Vic to Daniel and Mary (nee Ryan). Family rumour is that she had three girls and may have moved to Canberra or Orange, NSW. If anyone is able to shed light on this elusive lady I would be eternally grateful. Yours in hoping Tom Hickey
Hello List, Could some one please tell me if the Carl T. Dugdale Photograph Studio still exists. It was in East Street, Narrandera in the late 1800's - early 1900's. I have just received a photo taken there and I believe it could be my Gran and four of her siblings. Sincerely, June. _________________________________________________________________ Protect your inbox from harmful viruses with new ninemsn Premium. I have a feeling That some of my wifes ancestors are related to your Hancocks. When you first placed your messages here , I did a quick search for a William Hancock in my wifes family tree , the ones I found , did not seem to be related to your Wiliam Hancock, However , I am not so sure now. My Wifes ancestors on the Hancock side , came from Wilcannia, Hay and Albury. It seems more of a co-incidence that the Hancocks on your side come from very near the same areas. I think their may be a sibling Relationship somewhere along the line. billsymo@bigpond.net.au www.users.bigpond.com/bill_symo.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: "Edmiston & Taylor" <et.mob@bigpond.com> To: <AUS-NSW-WEST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 11, 2004 10:28 PM Subject: [NSW-W] Hancock - Hay / Booligal / Cargellico / Teryawynia > Thanks to all who assisted with my search for Teryawinia. Hi Bruce and Roz, On my 1879 map, "Wooloondool" was just slightly downstream from Hay. It stretched about two fifths of the way to Booligal. A small wedge of land above "Wooloondool" was called "Wooloombye". The other blocks between "Wooloondool" and Booligal were "Overall Plains Block A", "Overall Plains", "Wallaby Blocks A and B" and "Wallaby". Upstream from "Wooloondool" were the properties "Police Point" or "Elelewah" (alternative names being given), "Beabala", and "Howlong". Downstream from "Wooloondool" were "Benduck", "Coonon Point", and "Punpaympa" (which included the township of Maude). The property "Booligal" started at the township of Booligal and stretched downstream on the western side of the Lachlan River. The next property downstream was "Lake Waljeers". Could "Woones" possibly be "Wooyeo"? Downstream from the village of Euabalong, on the southern side of the river, were the properties "Euabalong", "Cargelligo", and then "Wooyeo". Hello Bruce 'Wooloondool' Station is about 10km from Hay on the North side of the Murrumbidgee River. It is thought the original station stretched nearly to Booligal - as yet I have not managed to look at any early maps of the runs. According to an extract I have from "The Riverina: People and Properties" by R.B. Ronald 'Wooloondool' Station near Hay was taken up by ?McEvoy (sorry I don't have a photocopy of the previous page) who held it until his death in 1873. According to Dansie: The licensee for the Yanco Glen Hotel was Morgan EVANS 1912-1916. It was a building of galvanised iron and wooden battens with matchboard linings, situated near Yancannia Creek 30km from Broken Hill. The hotel also functioned as a telephone office, "Kayoyarra", from 1917. 1916-1921 Richard James ROWE 1921-1922 John SWANSON 1922-1923 William John BAKER etc until the hotel burnt down on 9th April 1984. After trading from temporary premises it closed down in May 1989. Dansie's wonderful work on the hotels of the West is unpublished, but a copy of it can be seen at the Broken Hill Library (not available for inter-library loan).
