Hi, I am seeking any information on the following families: *Edward Price Stretton and wife Maria Harriden. Edward died 1898 at Hay and Maria died 1895 at Hay *John Franklin Cox and his wife Emma Stretton. John was the son of John and Hannah Cox (nee Shaw) formerly of Stawell Victoria. John's brothers were Joseph and John Lees. His sister was Alice Lillian. John died 1961 Hay Emma died 1950. *Robert James Barber and his wife Florence Stretton. I know a son John Thomas Barber was killed in ww1 in France and a daughter Florence Elizabeth died 1942 at Merewether. Family might have moved to Sydney. Gertrude May MaGuire(McGuire) married in 1892 Hay to Walter Stephen Stretton. I am trying to uncover her parents. I believe she was born in Hay 1873/4. Stephen Harriden and Maria Blackall. Does anyone have any connections to the Stores family. I cannot pin down my great grandmother Ellen (Nellie) Stores who married Tobias Miller in Wagga Wagga. I have the marriage certificate only. Supposedly she came from Tumut ( at least lived there before she was married) but Tumut hist Soc has no details. She may well have been born aboard ship as there is no record of her in UK. There are a few Stores families about - I suspect they are all the same famil - a couple of brothers emigrating. Love to hear from anyone who has the slightest scrap of info. Nellie and Tobias moved to Wallsend and Sydney thence to New Zealand. Cheers Ross Miller Plimmerton NZ

Hi List, I was just wondering if anyone was interested in having a "Lookups Available" page on AUS-NSW-WEST? In particular, these are great where someone has a record in the same room as the computer, and can quickly do lookups for people. They are not intended for exhaustive research, or to replace proper research enquiries to family history groups and historical societies, who use research money earned to buy new records. For example, as soon as I can compile an index to my history of Tibooburra, I would list that I have that index/book available for lookups. I am quite happy to put the page up on the Westies Web Site, but will need others to volunteer, by e-mailing me on [email protected] the details of records they have that they are willing check. What do people think???? Linda the Listie

This would be an interesting one to pin down - the separation of powers in local govt would mean that he was either Shire President and couldn't get anyone to do the clerical work, so stood in, or was a Shire Secretary who stood for office and became a councillor and ceased to be the worker. But interesting. He possibly sold "cordials" to my people who had the Victoria Hotel between Wilcannia and White Cliffs in 1904. Now, if you were travelling out there you really WOULD need a hotel to call into.
