    1. [NSW-W] List Home Page
    2. Linda Barraclough
    3. Hi List, Just popped my nose around the door to announce that the support web page for AUS-NSW-WEST is growing. It is at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/NSWW/ and now includes pages to bring together information on subjects such as photographers, properties (often hard to find!!), paddlesteamers etc as well as the usual items such as surnames under research. In particular, the names of properties on the Darling between Wentworth and Wilcannia in 1888, with distance by river (heaps further than by road today), have been added. Around that time my family loaded the house of my widowed great-grandmother onto a raft they built of Murray pine logs, and floated it from just below Pooncarie all the way down the river to Wentworth. They took it ashore there on the banks of the river, and she lived on in it for a number of years. Please feel free to drop by. 1. [NSW-W] New Pages
    2. Linda Barraclough
    3. Hi List, Following some suggestions from jac, I have added three new pages to the Westies Home Page at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/NSWW/ for properties, paddle steamers and photographers. They are there so anyone can list details that may help other researchers - especially the photographers. So dig out those old photographs, and let us know who was taking then when and where, and I can add them to the page to help others date photos. Same with the properties - if you can provide names of ANY in western NSW, we could build up a really good resource. Cheers Linda Barraclough Briagolong, Victoria, Australia e-mail [email protected] Listowner AUS-NSW-WEST http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/NSWW/

His parents were William Ward and Sarah Boxhall who were married in 1844 so I assume there were older siblings. Would love to contact any descendants of them. Morna Sinclair.

    1. [NSW-W] New subscriber info and seeking family info
    2. Majella Laws
    3. Hi everyone, I am a new subscriber so please bear with me. I live in Gippsland but my maternal great grandparents George Powell Winter and Margaret Evelyn Bain were married at Wanganella Station in 1874. George Winter was the blacksmith there. Somewhere between 1881 and 1883 the family moved to Stradbroke south of Sale and ran a coaching stop there. At that time they had four children and another three were born after the move. The eldest child Herbert George Winter took up a Soldier Settlement block at Tuppal near Deniliquin following World War 1 which he named DeVille Wood. I am seeking any information about Herbert as the only thing I have so far is his death registration number and some info on his military service. Was he married, did he have children. etc. TIA Majella ------------------------------------------------------ InterNet Australis http://www.australis.com.au/

    1. [NSW-W] Been a bit quiet ......
    2. Linda Barraclough
    3. Hi List, Just thought I would poke my nose around the door and welcome all the new subscribers we have had join recently. The List has been a little quiet - my beloved says it is because there is too much sand mixed with all the kangaroos, but I think maybe the newbies are sitting back waiting to see what is going on. So, how about the newbies feel free to introduce themselves, and the oldies feel free to re-post their interests, or throw in any snippets of information. We really are quite friendly. :) Just to repost my families - they are basically the BARRACLOUGH family all along the Darling River, with associated families such as WEAVER, LAMBERT, SAUL, LEHMAN, BAKER and WALKER. And a reminder that the list has a home page, including a surnames under research page. I do not automatically add names from posts to the list - you need to actually e-mail me with how you would like them listed. But they are most welcome. The URL for the Home Page is in my signature. Cheers Linda Barraclough Briagolong, Victoria, Australia List Owner: AUS-NSW-WEST email: [email protected] http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/NSWW/

    1. [NSW-W] 1) Free Anti Virus software 2) Web site tools 3) Backup files through the internet 4) Download software (All off topic but relevant to computer based genealogy)
    2. Paul Hanly
    3. Hi all, Sorry to be off topic, but I wish I had found the sites at 1, 2 and 3, 6 months ago. 1) You can download a free antivirus software from Computer Associates. It has free internet updates available. If you don't have up to date anti virus on your system see http://antivirus.cai.com/ 2) If you have, or are considering building a web page, and think you will want counters, search engines, guestbooks, links pages, Off site backup for important data files (you probably have the software on CD) and heaps of other stuff go to http://www.bravenet.com/ 3) Off site computer file storage is available through Braveheart (see above) or X Drive, see http://www.xdrive.com/ Consider backing up your data files on an internet based file storage site. That way, if your hard drive crashes you can get your files back (provided you can remember your login and password). 4) If you are looking for software for helping with your family website (or other software) have a look at Moochers http://www.ntv.it/moochers/index.html or Tucows (Australian mirror) http://www.tucows.com/Australia.html Sorry to be off topic but anti virus and backup on another computer seemed worthwhile, and the rest is useful too. Cheers Paul
