Hi there, I am new to the internet & hope someone may be able to help me. I am researching my family and looking for THOMAS CROOKS b 1850 in Melbourne. He married ELIZABETH HARRIS at Hay in 1872 and eventually died at Cunnamulla in 1913. Parents were JOHN FRANCIS CROOKS and EUPHEMIA GRAHAM. I am unable to find a death for Euphemia. Believe the family followed the old Cobb & Co track to Charleville where they lived and Thomas worked as a shearer/drover. Hope someone out there can help me. Thanks Joan Schellbach
hi Listers, I am just adding the name I am researching in NSW, Broken Hill to be precise. It is Frederick MacDonald and Alice Maud Nee Collins, Children Alexander and Stephen. I am wondering if N.S.W. has a Biographical index, if someone can check it for please and see if any info is in it. Also searching for any info on the name of Whitbread. George Isaac and Eliza had some children in Broken Hill. Apparently some Whitbread's stayed in Broken Hill, not sure who. Alexander MacDonald married Mrytle Amy Whitbread in Broken Hill, I have marriage certifcate. Thank you Wendy in Sth Aussie
I am wanting to make contact with anyone who can tell me about 2 jockey's named Jim Pike who was a regular rider of Phar Lap in Australia and the jockey Charlie Miller who died in a fall at Balranald in May 1824. Both these people were known to my grandmother's family who lived in Broken Hill and I have notes written by my grandmother of things they did or things they gave her. I presume they would have been well known in Broken Hill and wondered if they even had family there, or perhaps a racing historian might know more about them or can steer me in the right direction. Jim Pike was a relative by marriage to the Ward, Dance and Brobble families and Charlie Miller was a close friend of my grandmother. Any help would be gratefully received. Hi Wendy, The CD's don't give age, but he did die in Broken Hill. Have you considered getting a transcript at half the price of the certificates? Also, by quoting the number for the certificate to the registry office, it only costs $20 instead of $26, so that is something to consider also. Both Joy Murrin and Marilyn Rowan do transcripts for $13 or $14. Their information is as follows: Joy Murrin - E-mail: [email protected] Website: http://www.joymurrin.com.au Marilyn Rowan [email protected] or try her web site at http://www.marbract.com.au Happy hunting. I should have said that the settlement at Goodnight started in the early 1920s. Goodnight was started by a Joe Lockhart who bought part of the Poon Boon station. Lockhart subdivided part of his land in 1920 and people seem to have started arriving about 1921 or 1922. I'm interested in Goodnight from its initial establishment to the late fifties. Penny

Hi Penny, Of which dates/period are you talking ? regards Lins James (Jimmy) Reuben Little (the son of Mary Ann Deborah Sharrock and Francis Patterson Little) and his brother George Lesby Little apparently left the mines at Wonthaggi to live at Goodnight, NSW (near Swan Hill) where they grew grapes for the dried fruit market. They had Sharrock and Baulch family already living there. Also living at Goodnight were George Carter (son of William Carter and Susan Baulch) and his wife Deborah (sister of Mary Ann Deborah Sharrock mentioned above). I'd love to exchange info with anyone who knows more about these families at Goodnight or Wonthaggi. I'm also keen to exchange info with anyone who has family connections, information, photos etc on Goodnight, NSW or family buried at the nearby Tooleybuc Cemetery. Penny
