Hans Braaksma (Researching BONDESON, BEECHER, TELFER, EVANS) ******************************************************************************** ************************** Hi Hans Most early official Govt School records are now in NSW State Archives at Kingswood. Dept of Education & Training seems to have disbanded most of their history section in the interests of "modern management" and downsizing, but did offer a big collection of school papers to the NSW Society of Genealogists which thankfully agreed to receive and maintain them, and have now indexed same. In former times the Directorate of Planning Services of dept of Education published several editions of a Directory of Govt Schools 1848-1983, with good historical summary of devt of education in NSW and lists of all schools opening and closing and reclassification dates. 1983 Edition says: 085 GOBBAGAULA* prov1.1880-3.85, 10.1897-6.99; ps 7.1899-6.1906, 7.1913-12.16; prov8.1918-2.40 NB * Named GOBBAGAALY until 1885 prov = Provisional School (could be est where 10-15 or more chn but fewer than the 25 needed for a public school registered to attend. Parents supplied building & furniturein provisional schools and School Council /Dept of Ed Authority the teacher & books; ps = Primary School 085 is County reference. Hope this helps Kay

Hello Listers Would anyone with access to MI's for Broken Hill Cemetery be able to do a look-up for me please? I am researching a Henry BEECHER (BUTTCHER), died 1913 in Broken Hill, apparently buried in the C of E section. Is there any inscription? I am also interested making contact (on or off the list) with anyone else researching this family or with knowledge of biographical information. Henry is thought to have moved to the Broken Hill area in the 1880s, and moved backwards and forwards from Narrandera. He was thought to be a very well-known billiard player (with significant financial wins) in the area, and worked as a billiard marker. Thanks in advance Hans Braaksma (Researching BONDESON, BEECHER, TELFER, EVANS)
Hi All Still posting my interests. It's always easier to do it one at a time. William Henry Godson hailed from Staffordshire in England. He arrived in SA around 1835. In 1839 he married Charlotte Watts...the daughter of convict John Watts. They moved to NSW around 1857to be closer to Charlotte's family in the Hunter area. William and Charlotte moved to Narrabri where William died in 1889. Their son, John George Godson, my gg grandfather, married Fanny Pascoe and moved to Warren. I'm not sure when exactly....but it was around the early 1900s. John George and Fanny had the following children: 1. William Henry b. 1877 m Eliza Garland 2. James Watts b. 1879 m Winifred Hiles 3. Emma Louisa b. 1880 m Charles Kearns 4. Sarah Alice Phoebe b. 1882 m. Albert Bolton 5. Charlotte Jane Godson (my g grandmother) b. 1884 m. William Lynch 6. John Charles b. 1885 7. George Richard b. 1888 8. Robert Arthur b. 1890 9. Albert Edward b. 1892 10. Sydney Tolbert b. 1894 m Kathleen Maher Any rellies out there who would like to help fill the gaps? Hi All I've only just found this list and so I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year and post my interest. William Henry O'NEILL and Elizabeth LEONARD moved from the Coonamble/Gulargambone area to Warren around 1916 where he gained employment as the Manager at "Myree" a Station on the Kulkine Rd. Their children were: 1. Stanley b. 1895 (an illegitimate child of Elizabeth, however considered to be an O'Neill) 2. Ada Elizabeth b. 1898 m Sidney Brigden 3. Edward Spencer b. 1901 (My Grandfather) m Alice May Godson 4. William Albert b. 1902 m Kathleen Robertson 5. Vera b. 1904 m Raymond Finucane 6. Arthur David b. 1906 m Eileen Brown 7. My grandmother's parents (George and Lydia BROBBLE) managed or owned and therefore lived in several hotels from the early 1900's to at least 1925 when my grandmother Lila and her husband (Policeman David SUTHERLAND then lived at the Mulga Hotel for some time. I believe the hotels were the Oxford and Mulga. Does anyone know anything about these hotels either then or now? My grandmother and her sisters were very good friends of the Jockey Charlie Miller who was killed in a race at Balranald about 1923. She was also related to the jockey Jim Pike who regularly rode Phar Lap in Australia, although not in the famous Melbourne Cup win. Jim Pike was related (as yet uncertain exactly how) to Lila's grandfather Richard Dance, who also lived in Broken Hill at that time. I would be interested to hear from anyone with any information or comments at all. Lynette in Maitland
