    3. Hi Jim, Whilst you may have fond memories of your childhood there, as most of us do in our own way, I'll remind you of something else, during late January early February the temperatures at Walgett, Brewarrina, Bourke, Cobar remained in the middle to high 40's C., for days on end, that's something you would never forget. Then just a week ago torrential rain closed the roads from Bre' to Walgett and Bourke for several days, what a wonderful country we have. I know what it is like, as a child I lived for several years at Wentworth (on the junction of the Darling and Murray rivers). Lindsay Little is my name Jim, and my interest is in a couple of properties my g.grandfather owned during the 1880's 90's. One of them Curraweena is situated half-way between Cobar and Bourke, and ran towards Byrock. The other was Glen Arif on the Nyngan / Bourke road. At the time it was a staggering 500,000 acres and its eastern boundaries would have been close to where you describe. I subscribe to several email groups here and people come up with some fascinating info, there are several people from the U.S. corresponding and I am in regular contact with a lady and her husband in regards to my and their search for family history, they live in California, and have an Australian g.g.grandfather, and have as yet not visited Aussie. In particular CONVICTS brings forth heaps of general info, Hunter Valley also, it is worth subscribing just to read the messages. My wife, Judy and I live 30kms. south of Forster on the mid-north coast of N.S.W. regards, Lins.

    3. Hi there Pam, thanks for your note...Bunnawanna's history only goes back as far as around 1946 when the Gov't split those big blocks up into Soldiers Settlers places, my Dad being lucky enough to have returned from WWII okay and then to have drawn what was to become Bunnawanna, situated roughly half way between Bre and Bourke, slightly NW (and across the river) from Mount Yambacoona. (Though someone told me recently that the mount is no longer called that...I wonder what it is now??)...it was about 25,000 acres, bordered on the south by the Darling and on the north by the Culgoa...this meant that there was (usually) enough water to run the sheep. It was on an old stock route that used a low-water crossing on the Darling, not too far from the house though this kind of droving had finished by the time we arrived out there ('46). The remains of an old drovers pub were still to be seen in the mid 50s but I failed to find them when I went down there on a Sentimental Journey last year. It must have had some interesting tales to tell! There were a few gravesites on the place, one of a stockman who was said to have been done in by his fed-up wife and another of a drover who was supposed to have been killed by natives in some sort of dispute which in turn led to some more killings later on...Wild West indeed! Please feel free to email me any specific questions you may have, if I can't answer then I'll check with my mother who lives in Sydney and has a very good memory for Town & Country gossip! Thanks again to all who answered my post on the list and best regards to all, Jim Fisher ----- Original Message ----- From: "pamela pinkerton" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, February 27, 2001 3:52 PM Subject: Re: [NSW-W] Greetings from new list member > Hi Jim > > I am doing research on properties as opposed to people because I believe > they have so much history, and I love the old properties. 3. Hi Paul and Lorene, I may have a possible link. My husband's family were Lees, who lived in Dubbo and along the way married into the Colless family. A Colless daughter married a Flack but we also have Warren in the line. A lot of distant relations seemed to intermarry at that time. I'll try and sort the full etails out with dates and let you know so you can see if there is a link cheers Sheila ----- Original Message ----- From: Paul & Lorene <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, February 05, 2001 10:25 AM Subject: [NSW-W] flack, warren, christian, atkinson, smith families > > Hello all, > > I am tracing Arthur Flack and his wife Ada nee Russell.
