Hi List I found something in the NSW Police Gazette last night about my grt. grandfather (at least I think it's him - certainly fits). In July 1914 there is a Warrant out for him by the children's court Bench for child desertion. It gives a description and states he's a Showman which he was, aged 45 (that fits). The Complainant is Frances Hiddlestone of 14 Gordon Street, Paddington. I Googled the name and came up with a WW1 Australian Army record for Francis Edward John Hiddlestone, 14 Gordon Street, Paddington, aged 34 in 1915. It's the same address but I can't find a birth for a child in NSW after 1911 for either Coles or Hiddlestone as one can only search until 1911. I'm also wondering if the complainant Frances should be Francis as in male not female. I looked for a Marriage for Frances Hiddlestone and found one for Francis E Hiddlestone marrying Annie J Molloy in Sydney in 1912. Perhaps it was her child and her new husband decided to seek child support. So, I'm hoping someone out there can help me with this puzzle. Dear old grt gramps (Charles Coles), married in 1915 in Brisbane to his second (that we know of) partner/wife - wonder if she knew!! The more I find out about this man the prouder I'm getting - not.
