I was wondering if anyone knew of these people. From what I believe they lived in The Rocks area. I know that she (Agnes born c 1821) died in 1862 in Sydney. There is a inquest into her death in February 1862 Sydney Herald Paper. It states that her husband (George Wilson b c 1820) was "a Stevedore - at present employed in Queensland" not sure what a Stevedore is. Hope someone can help. Regards Tracey.
Hi Tracey A Stevedore loaded and unloaded cargo from ships; today know as a Wharf Labourer or Wharfie. Regards Peter O'D Central Coast NSW - not sure what a Stevedore is. Hope someone can help. Regards Tracey.
A stevedore is a wharf labourer who works on the docks loading ships - it was very very hard yakka in the days before cranes and containers :) Leith Davis On Sat, Oct 13, 2012 at 11:47 PM, <tracey_e62@exemail.com.au> wrote: > I was wondering if anyone knew of these people.
