As I have looked at the bridge in recent years, from various angles I have found its original charm very much absent thru widening, strengthening and other hurtful injuries so the original beauty of the poor thing is gone, longago. The nicest views of the original design are probably those from water level. And ultimately from the intended bicycle riders. >> Partial Demolition of Lennox Bridge Approved: On Wednesday 3 October the > NSW Heritage Council voted to allow Parramatta City Council to demolish part > of the 1830s convict-built Lennox Bridge to provide for two riverbank > cycleways. I was an active member of the Nat Trust Industrial Archaeology Committee long ago. The Heritage Council always impressed me with the thorough justice they invoked toward the built environment. It seems inappropriate to me, that this debate should spill into this Rootsweb service. Maybe Facebook or Twitter could be better suited?? Sorry Alistair, I thought that this is an appropriate way to talk of historical issues, especially the preservation of such structures. A lot of us don't do Facebook or Twitter. Yes it is a shame that it has got to this state of disrepair but if we don't chat about such things more will disappear. I am proud of our heritage and this list has helped me in many ways by talking about people and issues just like this. Thanks for your input, I respect your views and I will say no more on this topic............................Jenni -----Original Message----- From: aus-nsw-sydney-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-nsw-sydney-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Alistair Cameron Sent: Sunday, 14 October 2012 2:17 PM To: aus-nsw-sydney@rootsweb.com Cc: Judith Rowling Subject: Re: [ANS] Lennox Bridge, Parramatta needs your help Thanks to Jenni and Alison for illuminating this topic.
