    3. I love how everyone is offering to do the transcriptions for free - we should let the Registrar know! I have to say that I think the free online BDMs in NSW are just a treasure. It costs in Victoria and I think in SA - not sure if anywhere else, so that limits the amount of general searching which you can do - no such limits apply here in NSW. I don't know about anyone else, but I have spent hours on our free BDMs, and yes I have found mistakes, but boy does it have a great search facility. I have even found some family members just through searching an unusual first name in a particular date range, with no surname even entered. I LOVE our free online BDMs, think before Trove it was my favourite genealogical thing. Now maybe Trove is catching up! We need to make sure that it doesn't become a user pays search, which would become very limiting. What genealogical tools do others love? Jill

    2. > I actually thought that under the Births Deaths and Marriages Act that the basic information (as well as for burials) was supposed to be available for free (I do know that they are held by the different states, however I thought it was a Commonwealth Act). The law I found was a little while ago and unfortuantely I can't remember where (silly me). But if I find it again I will let all know. I just think you should be entitled to basic information. Anyway that's my 20cents worth. Thanks.
