Hi list, i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for the following puzzle: i have a *Thomas Godfrey ENGLAND * b. St. Lawrences, Sydney, 1854 (Thomas A on old cemetery printout records but definitely Thomas Godfrey acc'd to headstone) d. Parramatta, Sydney, NSW (aged 26 yrs on headstone, but born 1851 accd to bdm register as Thomas G) Buried at Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney (accd to Rookwood Cemetery CD: Thomas Godfrey died 19 Dec 1880) BUT i cant find any reference to his death in the BDM's. This is my last "line" of my family tree to research and that death certificate would be invaluable.. I would be very grateful if anyone could make a suggestion as to why he may not be in the BDM records. Many thanks Sue

Dear Sue, Have you checked the NSW Probate Index? Probate Packets are at State Records KINGSWOOD if he is on it, and sometimes there is a Death Certificate in the packet.There is always an Affidavit from someone who knew him well and saw him dead before burial, which is a proof thing for the Supreme Court. Check with the cemetery and make sure it is a grave stone rather than a memorial stone, if it is a grave stone then the cemetery should have the date and place of death and burial date which may help clear up the confusion.
