I have a g-aunt born in 1883 in Goulburn - this is according to her death certificate which states aged 88 when she died 4.8.1971. I would just love to know the exact date she was born ie; day and month. I have rung Rookwood (not on records altho she is buried there with her sister) and have rung the funeral people (who haven't records kept back to 1971). Can anyone advise me what else I can do? Hi Colleen My first thought was that I would apply to the Goulburn School District and see if they have her school records on file in their archives anywhere. In those days most of the population went to church on Sundays so maybe an inquiry to the local churches, also the Goulburn Family History Society, and the Rootsweb Mailing List for that district. She was forstered by the WALKER family and all I know is that her name was Grace - that is why I need her exact birthdate so I can look for all 'Grace's' born in Goulburn on that date. I would contact Rookwood again and insist a search is done for her grave site. Each of the religious variations (eg Catholic, C of E, Methodist, Baptist etc.) have a separate office and you may need to phone all of them until you have an answer as to where she is buried. If you have the death certificate it should tell you in which area she is buried in Rookwood, if not it will tell you the religion of the Minister who conducted the burial, so phone the office that is in charge of that religion and they should be able to tell you where she is buried and if there are others in the grave and also family members buried in the adjoining graves. Rookwood is a very large cemetery covering several acres, or hectares in today's measurements. If you give us her name one of us can check the BDM Index and tell you the registration number of her birth registration, then you can apply for a transcription of the birth record which is a lot cheaper than applying for a birth certificate. Dear Colleen, Not too many graves have the birthdate on the headstone. The Death Certificate should tell you where and when she was born, and you will have to either get a certificate or transcription of her birth registration.
