Hi I am a new subscriber and live in Brisbane. I am researching my father's cousin, William SOPWITH (b. 1 April 1906, North Shields, UK). He emigrated to Australia with his parents William and Magdalene Robinson SOPWITH 1926 when he was 20 years old. He married Ella Mary SHARP in 1952, but I have not been able to trace any children (who would be my second cousins). His mother, Magdalene, was my grandaunt, and died in Parramatta, NSW in 1961. Dear Hazel, I think you need to be more specific as to which state he actually immigrated to, as each state has records of their own. If you check the NSW Probate Index you may find his mother left an estate, therefore papers for that would be at State Records KINGSWOOD, and may name any grandchildren. Someones had his service dossier digitised on the NAA record search web site . And are a couple of other refs to Wm SOPWITH. This family came here in 1926 on the 'Osterley' ........ in the NAA passenger indexes Both Wm and Ellas deaths were in the Sydney Morning Herald http://www.rootsweb.com/~nswsdps/ Along side 'Browse the indexes is ' How to get a look up done' . Have you tried Googling the Ryerson Index? There are a few SOPWITHS recorded there. Joe
