    3. Have you thought that perhaps the surname has been wrongly transcribed, after all the correct pronunciation is Macky to rhyme with black sky. My mother was Helen Crawford Hendry, her sister Jean Harvey Hendry. This was after their grandmother's maiden names. I am Robert Hendry Horton the Hendry from my mother's maiden name. I was never very conscious of my uncles having middle names. Although the Scots have a habit of handing down Christian names. I have two other cousins named Robert. Protestant Irish in my limited experience are given to using the middle name as the normal name to address some one with. Hence John Watson Smythe is known as Watson. Having said that, there appears no evidence to suggest that there is a surfeit of Archibalds in the family line, which would be the only sane reason for reason using the second Christian name.
