    3. Thanks Liz Below are my notes on the arrival of my GGGrandfather Joseph Michael Saville and his friend (cousin?) Thomas Bridgeman. Both had assisted passage from the local parish in Radwinter Essex. Trying to establish connections of Radwinter families. ARRIVAL IN AUSTRALIA: John Oxley Library Sydney, June 2004: Shipping List, 1851 reels 2136, 2462, Joseph Saville 2l arrived on the 'Garland' in 1851 travelling alone - he and Mary A Moore married the following year. Reel 2136: Joseph Saville male 21, farm labourer, native place Essex, Church of England, could read and write. On the end of the Garland reference the recapitulation states there were 259 on board. It continued: 'among the wives and families of convicts that came in this ship there were 35. See Convict Book 10.' What's that? Joseph was born in Romford Essex in 1831 of parents George and Sarah (dead?) and left for Australia as an assisted passenger - paid for by the Poor Law Board via the parish - on November 30 1850 from Plymouth arriving Sydney March 15 1851 ship Garland. He was with a Thomas Bridgeman whose brother was in the 11th regiment. I have pretty much established that Thomas' brother was Josiah Bridgeman - would love to know anything of him Liz. I have also discovered that another member of the regiment, Charles Eyles was the brother of Jane Eyles who married another Thomas Bridgeman in 1843. I understand they had prevciously lived in NZ. There may be a connection here too.
