    3. Dear June, I think the 11th Regiment of Foot were the first ones to occupy Victoria Barracks. The archives section there I think is open every Sunday and after the band practise on whichever day of the month it is. Sincerely,Bill > Can Listers help me with details/membership of H/M 11th Regiment? A > relative of mine arrived from Plymouth as an assisted migrant in 1851,

    1. [ANS] H/M 11th Regiment
    2. Jenny McCarthy
    3. In the book 'From Sydney Cove to Paddington Hill - The Story of Victoria Barracks' by John E Kreckler which I purchased from Victoria Barracks, there are many mentions of the llth Regiment of Foot (North Devonshire Regiment) It states that the Newcastle Barracks were occupied on 24 October 1849 when a detachment from the 11th Regiment, commanded by Lieutenant Parker, marched in. The Museum at Victoria Barracks is open on a Sunday and some Thursdays. I am sure you can find some information on the website. ..· ´¨¨)) -:¦:- ¸.·´ .·´¨¨)) ((¸¸.·´ ..·´ -:¦:- -:¦:- ((¸¸.·´*.` Jenny McCarthy Brightwaters N.S.W. on beautiful Lake Macquarie

    3. Thanks Jenny I live about ten hours drive from Sydney - so no museum I'm afraid. However, the web site looks interesting and I'll see what comes of that ... 3. Is there any lister who has any information on Lietenant John Ovens of the 57th Regiment born about 1806 who was in Sydney from the last 1820s. He married Georgina Green who died a few months after their marriage in 1830 - she was buried in Devonshire Street Cemetery and the grave is now in Botany Cemetery. I am interested in if he remarried, when he died, and any information about his life. ..· ´¨¨)) -:¦:- ¸.·´ .·´¨¨)) ((¸¸.·´ ..·´ -:¦:- -:¦:- ((¸¸.·´*.` Jenny McCarthy Brightwaters N.S.W. on beautiful Lake Macquarie
