Hello Tony How very kind of you to put up the message below, I am very grateful and hope that it turns up some more entries for my database, a recent entry in the RSVP section of the SMH brought in six or seven new entries, including some documentation regarding re-interments from the Catholic cemetery to other places, as building work over the old graves progressed, here's hoping for a similiar result, have we been in touch before? your address is shown as Oakhill, would that be Oakhill College by any chance my very best wishes for New Years night and a happy and healthy 2007 Patrick Callaghan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tony Moore" <tony-moore@bigpond.com> To: "Mary Cunningham" <mary_cunningham@austarnet.com.au>; <aus-nsw-sydney@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, December 30, 2006 8:07 PM Subject: Re: [ANS] Balmain Cemetery Buriel Index Dear Mary, Would I be correct in presuming that this index you have is the Balmain General cemetery, and not the Balmain Catholic Cemetery ? I ask this, just in case you've stumbled upon an previously unknown source with a listing for the Catholic cemetery. There is a Patrick Callaghan who is attempting to rebuild an index for the Balmain Catholic Cemetery re- creating it from anyone who has certificates to indicate a burial there. In an archived message he wrote: " .......Balmain Catholic cemetery existed between about 1857 and 1900. It was located in Elswick St. Leichhardt and was not connected to the Balmain cemetery in Norton St Leichhardt. The catholic cemetery is no more and all its records have been lost. I am gathering information about the history of the cemetery and trying to re-create the burial register. I would very much like to hear from anyone who has ancestors buried there or who believes their people were buried in that area but are unable to locate the place of burial......."
