Hello List Recently I received the Marriage Cert for Alexander ROSS & Delia DUNK, they were married 1863 in Sydney. Alexander ROSS is recorded as being born at Cape of Good Hope. My husband think this is in South Africa, is he right? A couple years ago, another researcher gave me the info that he was born 5 Jan 1841, Sydney, with the parents Alexander ROSS & Caroline, the year, 1841 ties in with his age on the marriage cert. I have searched the NSW BDM's, there is a record V18411610 47/1841 ROSS ALEXANDER JAMES HANNAH, but clearly the parents are not the same. I am also not sure of a death date yet, I was hoping to verify his parents & birth, as there are heaps of Alexander ROSS' on the BDM's There is also 4 other children listed for Alexander & Caroline betw 1843 & 1853 Happy Hunting for 2007 Cheers Melissa CHAPMAN - Leicester Eng, CHILDS - Hampshire Eng & Australia, COLE - Kent/Sussex Eng & Australia, DUNK - Sussex Eng & Australia, GANNON - Roscommon Ireland & Australia, HOGARTH - Australia only, HOUGAARD - Denmark, HOOK - Huntingdon & Kent Eng & Australia, LANGTON - Leicester Eng & Australia, MONKTON/MONCKTON- Kent Eng & Australia, REILLY-Antrim Nthn Ireland & Australia, SKINNER - Kent Eng & Australia, TEGG - Surrey & London Eng & Australia -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Hello Melissa I am from the family of Alexander Ross of parents James and Hannah. I have my Alexander: 60/Vol. 139 Certificate 1841, Alexander born 19th February 1841, christened 7th April 1841 in the Parish of St. Laurence, County of Cumberland, NSW. Father James Ross, mother Hannah McLeod, of Lane Cove, North Shore. Farmer. Performed by James Fullerton, Presbyterian Church. Alexander's father was James John Randall MacKenzie Ross born October 25, 1811, my gggrandfather. Scottish christening records Ross and Cromarty Parish of Avoch, Page 5953 Batch film no. 7313706 Serial sheet 9, James John Randall MacKenzie son of James Ross/Henrietta McIver 4 July 1835 christened on the same day as his son of the same name. I am descended from another of James' sons, John Ross. James and Hannah had another son Alexander in 1839, who died: NSW Pioneers Index 1788 TO 1888, V183960 139. Sydney St Lawrences., NSW Pioneers Index 1788 TO 1888, Birth Alexander Ross parents James and Hannah V183960 139. Presbyterian, registered Sydney St Lawrences. Alexander Ross died in 1839 registered Sydney; Woolloomooloo no parish stated, no parents named V1839261 103 Presbyterian. Seems as though James and Hannah lost a child Alexander. They then had another child in 1841, named him Alexander. Alexander Ross parents James and Hannah V18411610 47 Presbyterian Sydney, St Lawrences. I'd be happy to talk with anyone with an interest. By the way Melissa ships travelling from Britain to Australia often stopped at the Cape of Good Hope at the bottom of Africa for provisions and with the support of the ships' surgeons wanting to avoid illness intrinsic in some of the longer voyages. Your Alexander may have been born during one of these stops.
