From the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary. Factor. An agent, a deputy, a representative. Now chiefly Scottish. An estate manager, a land agent: a bailiff. Also a person appointed by a court to manage property. The word is still current in Scotland. I remember when my cousin was living in rented property near Glasgow, his wifey would use the term for the person who managed the property. It, in my opinion does not quite equate with real estate agent as it may only encompass part of the duties. Bob and Laurel Horton. St. Peters Cooks River History Group.
